I know it's different rims but the difference between his backboard breakers and shaqs is that shaq hangs on the rim, Dawkins shatters it while he is on the way up. It's all from his slam, no hanging at all.

He was not a great basketball player at all, but he was known for his dunks and was a good ambassador for the game. Sorry to hear this news. 58 is young. R.I.P.

When I was a kid and he broke his first backboard it was the talk of my school. It was crazy. The naming of his dunks like the "monster turbophonic delight" was totally badass. The dude was a gem.

The Sixers should add a DD emblem to their jersey next season in his honor.

He was truly one of the great guys of the game, especially off the court.

RIP but all I remember about him is that Maurice Lucas beat his ass and Portland came back and won a championship after that ass whooping.

Lucas punched him from behind and didn't even knock him down. Dawkins came back and was about to square off with him and then Jack Ramsey jumped in and everyone else broke it off.

I will always have mixed feelings with Dawkins.

He may have been one of the biggest factors in Julius not getting an NBA ring before Moses arrived. You see Darryl was a man of contrasts. He was one of the most physically gifted players to ever don a 76ers jersey, and so much was expected of him. We kept waiting for him to fulfill his promise and become the next great 76er big man in Wilt's tradition, but the day never happened.

Why? Maybe he lacked the fundamentals from college? Maybe he took the game too easy, or maybe just lacked the smarts and dedication to his craft. Don't really know.

One thing is for sure, his time in Philly was the golden age of 76er basketball, even though a title ultimately wasn't in the cards. He was, in part, responsible for that, even as we accept his failures. He will always be remembered for that winning era, and that is not a small thing.

Rest in Peace. :applause:

Maybe it's just the angle and that it looks like it's shot on some 80's, potato-powered vhs camcorder, but that is just mesmerizing.
