I came into this show thinkin this f@ggy european finna ruin the legacy of Hannibal that Hopkins left behind and yet he completely takes nasty, unadulterated baby shts all over Hopkins interpretation of Hannibal . Hopkins was weirder in a creepy way thats it in comparison. Mads is THE Hannibal Lecter

Im in the middle of watching The Wire, as soon as I finish that then I will start on Hannibal........
Stick with it bro
Hannibal starts to take off half way through the first season and it literally doesn't stop. It just got better and better, literally til the end.

That being said, I have only watched half way through s3 up to the end of the first story... Is the Red Dragon arc good guys?

I respect what Hopkins did by taking Harris' character and turning it into one of the few modern day classic monsters (he was inspired by Lugosi's Dracula), but I agree...Mikkelson proved every doubter wrong with this. His Hannibal is much more terrifying on a subtle level, and his dialog with Alana in the finale is some next-level shit.
I can't believe no one picked this show up, but then again, I have no idea how they would have topped this season. Amazing run. I expect in a few years everyone who missed out on it will finally catch up, like with other cult shows.

Haven't seen the finale, but I much prefer Mads as Hannibal.
He really seemed to have the intellect and the taste, he was the best representation overall, even if Hopkins might have seemed more dangerous. Or unsettling at least.
Hannibal was a great show. Bedelia was an amazing character, so was Jack, and Will.
Will miss this show's dream-like feel. And it's dialogue.
Bravo. :applause:
Also, never got even one Emmy nomination. This shit is detestable.

Is it worth it even with it getting cancelled and not wrapping up nicely?

Hell yes
You'll feel absolutely mind ****ed by the end of it. In a good way. The emotion and character development just evolves so well. By the end of it no one seems human. The main arc that finishes halfway through s3 (which is all I've seen so far) is epic. Give it atleast the first half of S1, it takes a while to set up, I found the first episode a little jarring, but once the players and the stakes have been set, it will just keep getting better. One of the rare TV shows that kept on getting better and better as it went on.

Everyone knew that the show could be cancelled at any time, so the finale gives enough closure to be satisfying. In fact, as much as I want more Hannibal, I'm fine with the show ending the way it did. I don't think they'd be able to top this season, to be honest. It's not a Deadwood situation.

So the third season is EVEN BETTER than the first two?! I finished the second a couple months ago and it's honestly in my top5 shows ever. Must...start....the finale!

Hopkins is better because he portrayed the character in around 3 hours and did it brilliantly.
Mads is given how many episodes now? Therefore, it feels like he is better but he has more time to develop the character.
If Mads was given the role for a 3 hour film....it would definitely suck.

Hopkins just made him seem like a raving lunatic. Total crazy person (and dangerous crazy).
Mads made him seem like simply a total psychopath. I think he was meant to be a psychopath and not just a nutter crazy, so therefore, I feel Mads' performance was better.

You got to ask though, can any other actor perform it just as good? I think not many could do what Hopkins did (or Heath as Joker) while many could do what Mads did just as well because in Mads case it's more directing and script than portrayal.

Mads Mikkelsen is a great actor, I suggest you watch The Hunt if you can find subtitles for it, terrific movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2106476/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

It helps that Mads has a reptilian face.

Such a great movie...
I have yet to watch Hannibal, but it's certainly on my list, mainly because of Mads.

The beginning of season 3 might throw you off a bit due to its tone and storyline. However by the end of the series, it definitely delivers and ends in a great way. My favorite finale still remains the one from season two. The final carnage scene was vividly visceral and epitomizes the excellence of Mads' Hannibal portrayal.

I feel that way about Awake which people should watch but won't due to it only having lasted one season.

I dont know the books and movies... they did 3 movies, then a fourth with Hannibal rising and his story as a youth...
how much stuff would there be left to explore?
This Clarice Sterling arc (and Buffalo Bill in the same story I hear?), and what else?
Didn't Fuller originally say he had a damn SEVEN season plan?

You haven't seen Silence of the Lambs?
Lmao you're in luck. Watch it. Looking back on it, Hopkins' performance as Hannibal works better as far as intimidation and overall presence. Mads' performance does work better on the other levels, but i was never truly afraid of his Hannibal, though i was much more intrigued by it.

And yeah, the "Clarice Sterling arch". It's the best material probably... though the Red Dragon is also great. But the show's take on it was kind of short.

Yes, now that I'm through with the show I'll definitely got the movies next... I might just nloy watch the Silence of the Lambs one, though, the others arent that well aclaimed it seems..
^ yea looks like they missed out the backstory on Francis for the most part.
I also heard he once said they dont have the rights for the Clarice/Bill stuff... weird how he came up with that seven season plan, then, in the first place.
They said if a 4th does come out, they wouldnt even continue at this point, but go back to season 1.. hm.

I think Red Dragon is better than silence of the lambs..
It definitely has a more interesting villain. I felt like the show could have done more with it than they did. They also were constricted by way they'd already changed the Will character.... I mean it worked for the first two seasons, but for the Red Dragon arc i didn't like how it fit in.
But Silence of the Lambs has the dynamic between Clarice and Hannibal, which is just top tier stuff. Their dialogues where the highlight for me. The plot is as good, or some might prefer Red Dragon, but the dynamic between those two just makes me enjoy it more.

I assume you mean the fact that Will completely shifted over to Hannibal camp at the end there?
Yeah, I also would have rather seen him fend those urges off, since he already made a good progress in that regard.
Well, if it continues they're alive.. Hannibal at least for certain.
For now, it's ambiguous.
