TT asking for 80Mil over 5years is something the Cavs can not afford with 3 maxed players already. Paying 80million a year for a player coming off the bench is just too much at this stage for the team, That money could be better used to acquire some talent elsewhere.

Boozer reported he is willing to sacrifice money to play for a play off team and play hard. He is the same height as TT and is a better shooter but obviously a worse defender. However Boozer can be picked up for potentially 2.5million compared to TT wanting some 17million a year. This means the Cavs can add additional talent at the SG position to acquire a decent wing defender/3pt shooter.

At the moment the roster looks like this

Irving/Mo/Del
JR/(need to add a wing defender)
LBJ/ (need to add a wing defender)
Love/Boozer (better option financially compared to TT)
Varejao/Mozgov

With roughly 5-12mil a year the cavs can add a decent wing defender/3pt specialist and they will be a very deep team.

Well, the Cavs perspective was that they had a handshake agreement with Boozer to sign a long-term deal. They didn't exercise their team option on him so that they can work out a deal. Then he bolted. Of course his side of the story is quite different. In the end all you can trust is that signature on a contract.

As a Lakers fan, I can attest that a non-household-name placeholder--or even a complete Vacancy in that position--would be more preferable than Boozer. His standstill-footwork, arms-length defense is too porous of a liability for any of his upsides to make it worthwhile.

I'd take TT's contract over an inexpensive Boozer one, because Tristan Thompson is also continuing to emerge as a fringe force on both ends of the floor while Boozer is on the downslope of his prime--hence no suitors--including the now-lowly Lakers--are going out of their way to pick him up.

 at a force on both ends. He sucks on offense and average on D.

Though Boozer is so bad on D that TT looks like a DPOY candidate next to him :lol

As a Warriors fan I approve of this move. I would start Boozer as well. Bring Love off the bench.

Carlos Boozer is a bottom 10 defender in the league, they are better off signing OP.

In a recent Zach Lowe podcast SVG sort of adressed this. He said fans are always looking for the greatest value signings, when sometimes that's not the way to win big.

'He's almost as good and his contract is a fraction of..'

Cavs had him on the books for pennies on the dollar and instead of taking advantage of him, or "f*cking him over" they helped the guy out by not exercising their option and signing him for a big money deal.

his agent group dumped him after it.

Even if Tristan Thompson is adamantly money-hungry, then--radical idea incoming--perhaps it would be in his best interest to negotiate on a less lucrative one-year deal, prove his continuant development as a player (he's still only 24-years-old), and then net in even more money as the salary-cap limit is bumped up next year?
