Here are some that come to mind for me:

I'm mostly going by a PPS (points per shot) basis. (Total Points/Shot Attempts)

Chris Paul: 38 points on 14 shots (2.71 PPS) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN23kf3nOpg)

Goran Dragic: 34 points on 13 shots (2.62 PPS) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO2TRXdKLlc)

What are some others you can recall?

Although not as high pps, I think Kyrie killing San Antonio was much more impressive. He was taking tough shots and he had a fg/ft ratio of more than 3 to 1

From memory, he was a bit more efficient, but going to give Mike Taylor some love anyway.

Yeah, I mean, the kid had two 37 point games last season on 12-18 shooting. And the SA game was beautiful. I'm still startled on how he managed to not touch the three point line during his 3 pointer that sent the game into OT, he must have been a fraction of a cm off.

Free throws play a large role in determining PPS. Ha, for instance Dwight Howard's 39 FT game would be misleading, which is kind of why I wanted to narrow it down to guards.

I think TS% is better than PPS

Magic 28 points on 11 shots against one of the greatest defensive teams game one of the finals '88. 10 assist only 1 turnover. Should have won FMVP.

Magic shot 68% in over a whole series against San Antonio in '86 for a 19/16 stat line.

Magic Johnson toke 3 shots for 13 points in the clincher securing his FMVP in 82. 13 assist as well... Against a great defensive team.

Why on EARTH did this thread devolve into a "games with a lot of FTs"?

Arenas against the NYK 2/25/06:
46 points on 13/16 from the field (33 points off 16 shots) and 13/14 from the line. In only 30 min.

Drexler 11/13/1990:
39/12/11 on 18/22 from the field. Only 4 FTAs.

Dude took like 45 FT's that game, IIRC. 13 shots and ~45 FT's to score 39 points.... :facepalm

That's ~60% TS. Wade was at ~80%. I'm going off of memory though (for wade and Dwight is a calculation I just made). I might be wrong.

Basically, Dwight needed ~20 more FT's to score 8 more points.

Fair enough. This topic is about Points per SHOT.

What about Dirk? 48 points on 15 shots... 3.2 PPS. I think he wins this thread.

Pointguard already brought up Magic, but I'm surprised no one mentioned his clinching game six of the '80 Finals.

42 points, on 14-23 and 14-14, with a game high 15 rebounds, and 7 assists.

can't recall just a single game from memory in terms of the most efficient performance.

however it does intrigue me in raising a question

besides the obvious answer of the on/off court simple rating. If we were to eliminate the count of turnover by assuming every time down the court, one side of the team must make a shot attempt and include this into the formula of the most efficient performance (hence, when a turnover occurs, every single team member benefits as none of their opponent had a scoring opportunity)

without calculating the effects of rebounding/assists, I find it may only be fair if we don't award players on the defensive end even if the opposing player doesn't make a shot attempt either due to match up or miscellaneous reasons.

hence on a pure PPS basis, by including defense, we may include total points player scored, minus total points assigned defensive player scored, divided by total shots attempted by both.

without the eventual let down that one single dominant performance that can not be maintained throughout the whole season renders this analysis useless anyways.

I remember watching that CP3 game live and just sitting there with my jaw dropped. It was like he was playing 2k on rookie. The Wizards had a top-10 defense that year too.
