I hear alot of people say players are better today than ever but that list is no where near as good as the top 10 from 1990.

Jordan
Magic
Barkley
Malone
Ewing
Robinson
Hakeem
Bird
Stockton/KJ
Wilkins/Drexler

Didn't even mention Isiah, Hardaway or Mullin. Gasol wouldn't even be in the top 20, Leonard barely.

Considering their own criteria, it's a terribly flawed list. But whatever.

these are ranking by SI.
also, most of these guys are not even half way through their career. 2013-14 season by KD was incredible. AD has the potential to be better than barkley and malone. Gasol is ranked so high because SI loves advanced stats and are a little hipsterish.
healthy pg and melo would be in top 10 instead of leonard and marc.

Also, top 10 or 20 players is the worst way to see how good or bad the league is.

Also, top 10 or 20 players is the worst way to see how good or bad the league is. If we go by that then 90s doesn't stand a chance against 2000s.
the 2000s had 3 top 10 players of all time playing at the same time. the 90s only had 1 in jordan.
This is the most accepted top 10 by most fans.

Jordan
wilt
Russell
Magic
Bird
Duncan
Kobe
Shaq
LeBron
Hakeem

are you ready to accept that 2000s > 90s?

nah, the period during 2008-2010 was actually the weakest era of the NBA since its modernization.

all the 90s and early 00s greats like KG, Iverson, Tmac, Vince, etc were too old.

the new generation of current superstars were not matured yet or didnt have strong supporting casts (KD, Lebron, etc). basically it was open season and any team could have lucked into some rangz

BoutPractice
09-03-2015, 02:29 PM
They definitely weren't "too old"… The teams that won from 2008 to 2011 were led by that very generation that was supposedly too old - the leaders were KG, Kobe and Dirk.

By the way, Shaquille O'Neal wasn't even in the NBA in 1991. He was drafted in 1992, so his first season was a 1992-1993 NBA season.

On what planet is Marc Gasol better than Melo?

I don't care how injured/fat he is, Melo is an elite offensive player and an average NBA defender. Is Marc Gasol even considerably better than Pau?

I have not seen Marc play all that much but I have not been terribly impressed.

Due to the durability issues, u can't have Wade and Kobe in the top 10 anymore. But without a doubt, THESE ARE THE TOP 10 PLAYERS IN THE WORLD FLAT OUT:

1. LeBron
2. KD
3. AD
4. Curry
5. Harden
6. CP3
7. Westbrook
8. BG
9. Boogie
10.Melo

The next dream will feature ALL 10 of these guys if they are healthy and willing to play. From there, I can see a guy like Leonard on the team for defense and hustle. But i FIRMLY believe that the top 10 players in the world ALL NEED to be players with alpha dog level scoring ability. Leonard and Gasol aren't on that level.

If they aren't alpha dogs, they need to be guys like Stockton. A PG who is a very good scorer AND is the best passer in the world. Of somebody like a Pippen who is getting 22 points, 8 dimes, and providing world class defense. Or a big like a peak Howard who's getting u 23 a night while dominating the paint on defense. I just don't see Gasol or Leonard on the level of these guys as well.

Gasol and Leonard are more top 15-20 kind of guys. For bigs, I would rather K Love, Howard, and LMA over Gasol. When it comes to Leonard, Butler and Klay are BETTER TWO WAY players because they are better scorers. I think u could EASILY ARGUE both of them over Leonard too. However, I have more of a problem with Leonard in the top 10 than I do Gasol.

It all depends on when you take the list.

Compare 98 to 2011 for example.

You had Lebron, Kobe, Dirk, KD, Wade, CP3, Howard, Westbrook, etc

Then you have the fact that these players are still playing, some are extremely young but talented, but haven't had the tenure to really put their place in history down. AD could go down as top 10 ever. Same with KD. Bron is already there. That list 15 years later doesn't look too bad when you have 3 top 10 players of all time.

Some of the players considered top 10 today wouldn't be 25 years ago. The late 80's/early 90's were just insane with star players. Someone like Isiah Thomas wasn't even selected to an All NBA team back in those years.

If you compare decades then I admit that it's probably closer.

2014-15 regular season
Gasol 17.4 pts / 7.8 rebs / 3.8 asst / 1.6 blk 49.4%FG 33.2 mins
Duncan 13.9 pts / 9.1 rebs / 3 asst / 2 blk 51.2%FG 28.9 mins

2015 playoffs
Gasol 19.7 pts / 10.3 rebs / 4.5 asst / 1.7 blk 39.4%FG 37.8 mins
Duncan 17.9 pts / 11.1 rebs / 3.3 asst / 1.4 blk 58.9%FG 35.7 mins

Similar production. Only big difference seems to be shooting percentage in playoffs - almost 20% difference. Not much difference between #11 and #9. Wouldn't do for Duncan to be in top 10 at age 39 :lol Besides, Marc was all-NBA 1st team (but no all-defensive team) while TD was all-nba 3rd and all-defensive 2nd.

90 was absolutely better. But that is the point I'm getting at, you could pick a single season like 2011, and compare it from back in the 80's or 90's and you'll find they mix and match as to which single season for everyone is better.

The list is stupid though. Marc Gasol better than DMC. Dude gets slept on so much. There is a lot of talent in the league but some of them are stuck on bad teams.
