Gasol and kawhi are the only players in top 10 who get no hate for disappearing in big games and moments and yet they are ranked so highly by most "experts"
why is this?

Curry has fans and is very popular and he doesn't get criticised. Durant rarely gets criticised too. It's because they're likable

message board posters don't count to the wider audience. People criticize everything on the internet. I mean, we could also say how Kawhi always gets disrespected by being called a glorified roleplayer and system player too. Or how Marc Gasol is just flat out overrated.

curry got criticized for a couple of bad games in the finals and durant too has had people criticize him for not playing well in playoff series before.
the truth is that you only get hate depending on how much people expect from you. these so called experts don't expect much from marc and kawhi but they rank them highly anyways.
ability to create offense on your own has become very underrated among the media and even fans.
I would take melo over kawhi just for 1 season on about 25 teams out of the 30 that play in the nba.
i can even get love for marc because good big man defenders are very hard to replace.

But those guys don't get a lot of media attention in the first place. Curry's daughter and mom get more media attention than he does. :lol

Neither of them are held to higher yet underachieved standards by the media, and much of that is attributable to the fact that they aren't even as popular of topicality for them to begin with; without garnering much of the focality to media discussions, they are less susceptible to media sensationalization than others, which is mainly the genesis for how they end up criticized to begin with.
Firstly, neither of them play on superstar-centric teams; because of that, fans tend to focus far more on the collective level of play for the team when it pertains to their success (or lack thereof), rather than focusing on how any singular player contributed to the win or loss.
It may change for Kawhi Leonard as he continuantly emerges as the clear-cut cornerstone of the Spurs' franchise moving into the future; but in his time, the Spurs system has integrated most contributions of all its players

Because they aren't that popular in the media to talk about. They don't have much of a personality to discuss about to begin with, let alone be heavily critical about.

Curry got tons of crap starting the 2nd half of the season, and culminating with his 1.5 games where he struggled against Delly. I saw idiots posting about how Harden was "the real MVP."

Because neither are primarily scorers
I agree! The guys who are alpha dog scorers tend to catch the most heat. Because after all, alpha dog scoring is the MOST PREMIUM ASSET in the basketball. The only stat that guarantees a win is points. And defensively, coaches design gameplans to stop the other team's best scorer.
The guys who can dominate scoring NO MATTER the circumstances or game plan are the guys who move the needle the most. It can be a score first guy like Durant and Melo. It can be a pass first guy like Bron. All three are alpha dog scorers in their own way. Leonard and Gasol don't have that kind of pressure on them.

Because neither are really top 10
Replace with DMC and Carmelo
Both these guys are primary scorers and do get hate for losing

Both are not clear cut top 10 players.
You could debate whether Kwahi is even the best player on his team now with Aldridge.

Kawhi Leonard is just a role player
I agree that Kawhi Leonard isn't unequivocally a top-10 player in the league yet; however, it's also safe to proclaim that he's evolved past the role-player epithet, being the Spurs' leading scorer, Finals MVP of their most recent championship and best individual defender (DPoY award).
Most of his potential has gone untapped as well, as he plays in a system of integrated ball movement and touches, but he still has a case as the most impactful contributor on a championship-contention team; it's just that he's emasculated from maximizing his individual impact due to systemic reasons.

The simple answer is that usually, when they put up a bad box score, they still played elite level defense and kept their team in it on that end.

Marc Gasol is not even a top 10 player. Deandre jordan and Tim Duncan are easily better
