View Full Version : The fact that anyone could ever think Kobe is in any way better than MJ is pathetic

MJ is a superior basketball player in every. single. way.
Better defender
Better scorer(Kobe scoring 81 doesn't negate this especially since MJ has averaged 30ppg through his career including his years with Washington)
Better, more efficient shooter
Better leader
Higher basketball IQ
Better post player
Kobe has the hotter wife, but MJ is clearly better than Kobe and anyone who says otherwise is a horrible human being.

Funny when people act like Jordan and Kobe are irreplaceable legends...
Durant and LeBron are better than both of those guys... better physical specimens.... better players..
Jordan and Kobe are 6 ft 6 little dudes... who cant shoot from outside.
KD is a 7 footer with the most beautiful shot in history. LeBron is a 6'9 behemoth with the skill of Magic Johnson and the brute force of Karl Malone.
Those two little SG's Kobe and Jordan... lol
If Jordan was 5 inches taller he would have a case for GOAT. Kobe wouldn't have a case either way.

Kobe is NOT a good 3pt shooter. His career 3pt% is 33%, which is below average. His best 3pt shooting year was when he shot 38% which is respectable but nothing special. MJ shot 42 percent from 3 in 96.
Lebron is even a better 3pt shooter than Kobe, including last season where he shot horribly

Did we travel back in time to 2010? Who's even arguing Kobe>MJ anymore? In fact, Kobe's such a non-threat that MJ fans actually like that comparison now. They'll gladly take that over LeBron vs. MJ.

09-05-2015, 01:13 PM
Right, but is it even worth wasting your breath on this counterargument when there aren't more than a few regulars here who seriously push the comparison?
This isn't 2005-2008, when the fans and media widely misbelieved Kobe even had a breathing chance to catch up to Jordan; even some of the more radical Kobe stans I know have conceded to Jordan's superiority nowadays. If anything, they feel mainly slighted by today's all-time-great(-potential) superstars.
The only mindsets I know that compare Kobe to Jordan are either teenage passersby or extremistic trolls that are bound to end up banned due to such a propensity--both of which aren't bound to stick around these boards long, so most of your addressees won't even be around to read this.:confusedshrug:

Jordan and Kobe cant shoot from outside.
3/4 of all shots attempts are 2-pointers and Jordan is a far superior 2-point jumpshooter than both Durant and Lebron... The stats prove this - Durant only shoots 42% from midrange and long two's, while Lebron is only at 37%... Otoh, NBA.com stats show that MJ shot 52% from this distance in 1997.

MJ fans prefer the MJ vs. Kobe comparison over MJ vs. Lebron
Where did you get this?... That's completely ridiculous horseshit - Jordan fans MUCH prefer Jordan vs. Lebron.
Lebron played far weaker competition than Kobe did in the West, yet Lebron has far more playoff failures... it's much easier to argue MJ's superiority against 2/6 than 5/7.
Just look how many playoff series that Lebron lost where MJ or Kobe would've won - 2009-2011 - all three years... In 2014, MJ and Kobe don't set the record for blowout - they would take the necessary 30+ fga to stay competitive and give their team a chance.. But Lebron only took 17 fga and allowed his team to go down in the history books for margin of loss.
MJ vs. Lebron
Stats don't mean anything - they don't tell who the better player is... But regardless, MJ had the superior stats too - here are MJ and Lebron's per 100 stats in the playoffs:
JORDAN: 43.3 ppg.. 2.2 oreb.. 6.1 dreb.. 7.4 ast.. 4.0 tov.. 118 ortg.
LEBRON: 36.5 ppg.. 2.0 oreb.. 9.3 dreb.. 8.6 ast.. 4.5 tov.. 114 ortg
MJ scores 20% more scoring, gets more rebounds that matter, and gets equal assists when you consider turnovers... All this on better efficiency - it's MJ across the board... Unless you prefer a couple extra defensive rebounds...
Of course, it's well-documented that MJ was the far superior 4th quarter scorer and clutch performer:

Where is this notion coming from that Lebron is a GOOD shooter?
It's insane.. Teams exploit Lebron by letting him shoot open shots (see the 2013 Finals) - this proves he can't shoot - no more evidence is needed... If the Spurs tried to let Kobe or MJ shoot wide open, those guys would have 50 points.. It's ludicrous to imagine those guys getting wide open shots over and over... But that actually happened to Lebron, because he CAN'T shoot.
I'll also add that the stats prove Lebron isn't capable of good efficiency at high shot volume - the NBA's player-tracking stats show that Lebron is horrible at the additional midrange required of high volume shooting.
27 shot attempts per game (Lebron's average in 2015 Playoffs) cannot be achieved on all 3-and-D - good midrange is needed to shoot well at this volume.. Accordingly, Lebron's career 37% midrange efficiency precludes him from ever shooting well at very high volumes - this is a statistical fact.

Kobe has been physically broken and been on a shitty team for the last 3 years...
...and somehow, he's still being compared to the GOAT and a player that's currently being hailed as the best in the game at the moment.
People that hate Kobe are constantly and indirectly comparing him to MJ or Lebron.
He's easily a top 5 player of all time. It's never been more clear. Basketball wise, he's been irrelevant since 2010.

You gotta understand Indian Guy - most MJ fans think Kobe is BETTER than Lebron.. Lebron played far weaker competition than Kobe did in the West, yet Lebron has far more playoff failures... it's much easier to argue MJ's superiority against 2/6 than 5/7.
The eye test also makes Kobe's superiority pretty evident to knowledgeable observers - Lebron is only elite in one area - primary ballhandler... Whereas, MJ and Kobe were elite in ALL areas - primary ballhandler, off-ball, midrange and isolations..
This is why they have better championship records - their superior versatility made them less exploitable on the biggest stage.. Again, Lebron lost a playoff series each year from 2009-2011.... MJ and Kobe would've won all 3 of those playoffs series that Lebron lost.
In 2014, MJ and Kobe would never have set the record for blowout - they would take the necessary 30+ fga to stay competitive and give their team a chance.. But Lebron only took 17 fga and allowed his team to go down in the history books for margin of loss.
