GREECE

Preparation Period: In the early goings, Greece lost warm-up games against Belgium and Turkey. But Fotis Katsikaris' team finished strong by winning the preparation tournament in Xanthi and taking the Acropolis Cup.

Star Player: Vassilis Spanoulis returns to Hellas and takes the reins of a team stacked and ready for glory with their playmaking leader back on board.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Katsikaris has brought together a team with strong depth and winning experience at every position. In addition to the floor general Spanoulis being back, Greece also have their NBA big man Kostas Koufos in the mix which gives the team another dynamic they've been missing of late.

So according to FIBA, Vassilis Spanoulis is "the star of Greece", not it's "vastly superior NBA players" (that's what ISH trolls call them), like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kosta Koufos, Kostas Papanikolaou........

When your "star" player has the lowest shooting percentage (2 for 7 for a 28.6%) in the team and because of his errors the other team made it a game in the first half today... then you know that your team has no chance for going anywhere in this tournament for as long as the team's "star" gets meaningful minutes.

Thank God for the team's other non-stars who don't give a damn what the paid press says and are all there to win games. Also thank God for the coach today benching the team's "star" until the other non-star players made sure the game was won...

BTW a you can see in the above link in today's game: Spanoulis +3 - Giannis Antetokounmpo +18

Game Hero: Despite six Greek players scoring at least nine points - including a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds from Yannis Bourousis, Nick Calathes was the Greeks' motor as he collected seven points, four rebounds, eight assists and one steal.

Didn't see the game but just from the boxscore Giannis seems to have played the most minutes(27) than any other Greek player.

Just an observation.

How is it that in the Euroleague the older and shittier you get...the more respected you become? lol. Nobody has ever given a crap about Spanoulis...he has never been at any moment one of the top 50 basketball players in the world.

Just an observation.

They played against Macedonia...........they play 5 games in 6 days.

Perhaps the coach understand strategy? Thus the two most important players in the team (Zisis and Spanoulis) would naturally get rested.

And of course Antetokounmpo is always featured in friendlies and against scrub teams. That's called "player development".

Just a fact.

Keep watching box scores and commenting like you always do.

Sloukas was the best guard today, period.

this exactly

spanoulis was simply bad today
zisis was a black hole on defense
and calathes despite having the pop-corn stats, was kinda average

it was all about the bigs printezis, bourousis and koufos, as well as sloukas.

How dumb is Euroleague the poster? This is for those of you who understand European basketball.

He seems to be inordinantly stupid and that stupidity is mixed with over the top arrogance.

I am seriously worried about the people he shares a community with.

He's doing it on purpose. He's addicted to attention.

hmmmm, if only someone could get rid of him.

Well, i'm not reading the full thread because i bet it's just the usual argument.

But... yea, Spanoulis is the Star of Greece we can't deny it. We saw it today how he can overtake games by himself.

Btw, Printezis is the most underrated player ever in Europe. I said it!

You say you are not a troll, but yet you always post like one. The games against scrub teams (Macedonia) for teams like Greece are to build up young players like Sloukas and Antetokounmpo.

If you can't grasp that, you are an idiot.

In the overall scheme of things, Antetokounmpo is a nice role player that helps on defense and gets some dunks, and Sloukas is a change of pace scorer off the bench. Zisis and Spanoulis are the leaders of the team, along with Printezis and Bourousis, but clearly the most important, because they run the whole team, and always have, and because they are the team's closers, and always have been.

If you can't grasp that, and actually are Greek, and actually do watch Greek national team games, then you are a colossal moron.

Either that, or you are just a troll.
