Late 80's Magic Johnson & take your pick with Michael Jordan from 87' up to I'll say his 1st retirement.

Pretty sure that combo is winning some rings.

Get some pretty good shooters and rebounders, and I don't think anything else really matters.

You could ALWAYS improve your team, but if we're just talking the LEAST they would need...above is what we're looking at.

Get yourself a solid big and a couple of shooters and you got a ring for every year they are together.

it's pretty good, but you're not stopping the opposing team if you don't get Pippen and Rodman.

Bird, Dirk, Reggie were better offball players than MJ. Bird is easily GOAT

I would like to see

Magic
Jordan
Garnett
Rodman
Mutombo

Throw in Adam Morrison as the one and only bench player, and I wonder how that team would do.

Without Pippen intimidating MJ in the locker room with GOAT c0ck I'm not sure MJ ever really becomes the competitor we think of him as.

They wouldn't need a 3rd superstar like Lebron to finish the deal.

I think we can all agree on that.

- Hit game-winning basket in 1982 college title game

- College player of the year

-1984 Gold medalist

-1985 rookie of the year

-1986 drops 63 in the playoffs against one of the GOAT 5 teams in a year they won the title

- averaged 37 ppg in 1987

Yeah, what a poor competitor he was before Pippen came along.

Bird and Dirk, no. At the very least, Jordan is on their level if not better. Reggie has a case, though I feel people watch him constantly running around like a dozen screens every play and confuse that with smart off-ball movement. Don't get me wrong - it IS smart (and effective), but it's not the only way to play off-ball. Bird, Dirk, and Jordan played nothing like Reggie did off the ball, but I would argue that at least Jordan and Bird were better off-ball players than Reggie was.

Playoff record without Pippen?

Playoff record without Pippen?

It only took two posts for this moronic argument to surface. Congrats. Are you of the impression that Pippen was a major contributor in 1988 when the Bulls went 50-32 and the second round before losing to the eventual ECF champ Pistons?

Interior and perimeter defenders. Pippen/Bobby Jones. Robinson/Russell.
Low post scoring and rebounding. Hakeem/Duncan. Moses/Chamberlain.
A great shooter to stretch defenses. Allen/Miller/Curry.

Plenty to choose from the history of the game.

Agreed! I don't think you could pick 2 players better suited to build a team. Respect to Jordan but both Bird and Magic had that distributor mentality from the start of their careers. My favorite 5 would be PG = Magic, SG = Jordan, SF = Bird, PF = McHale and C = Kareem. I loved McHale's footwork, upfakes etc and thought he was a beast in the low post and he could defend and he didn't care about attention or the spotlight, would blend in with stars. Good luck beating those 5.
