In 2014, it was unanimous that Durant had a better regular season than LeBron and won the MVP. Then Durant (western conference) ran into the San Antonio Spurs with an injured Ibaka in the WCF, and lost in a close 6 game series. While Lebron was able to coast through the E-league only to lose to the same Spurs team in the most lopsided finals of all time. Somehow LeBron gets credited with a better playoffs than Durant due to making the finals, when the Miami HEAT (54 wins, good for 4-5 seed in the West), would've been out in the first or second round in the Western Conference. Somehow losing to the same team in more dramatic fashion was enough to boost LeBron's inferior regular season back into the #1 spot in the eyes of the majority. Durant was the better player in 2014, but LeBron gets credit for previous years.
In 2015, Curry unanimously had a better regular season than LeBron and won the MVP. Then Curry goes on to average 28/6/5 on 61% TS in the playoffs all the way to an NBA championship. Meanwhile LeBron averaged 30/11/9 on 48.7% TS (Westbrook stats with even worse efficiency) while losing to Curry's team in the NBA finals with a depleted roster. Again LeBron, isn't the best player of the season, but his past volume of work gives him credit. Curry was the better player in 2015, but LeBron gets credit for previous years.

I don't think you understand what the word "unanimous" means.

Raw stats? 10 more points per game and 2 more assists while literally getting twice the defensive attention? Andre Iguodala not being able to play in crunch time due to shooting (10-28) 35% free throws? Ngga please, you didn't even watch the series. :oldlol:

Iggy shut down LeBron when he was guarding him. Iggy came into multiple Games and the team would go on a run, and he played in Crunch Time clearly you didn't watch the series :oldlol:

Curry was on a great team that could have won the ship with Harden, Westbrook, CP3, Durant, LeBron ... etc. Curry cannot guarantee any team he goes to 50 wins like LeBron can/has. Curry had a better season, but let's not kid ourselves, no one would ever, ever trade LeBron for Curry, even now. Also, LeBron's playoff stats flat out blew Durant's out of the water. Pretty sure he shot like 50% from three and had one of the most efficient playoff runs in recent memory.

Curry deserved his MVP and ended up snubbed of his Finals MVP award by a media-hyped teammate, and I have cited Curry's superiority over LeBron last season to affirm that the latter lost his BITW (best in the world status), but Curry was not last season's BITW; Anthony Davis was, and he somewhat availed from the vacancy a sidelined Kevin Durant left.
Once the Oklahoma City Thunder MVP returns and stays healthy this upcoming season, it will be a two-man competition for the BITW status between him and Anthony Davis, with Anthony Davis ultimately taking a stranglehold on it once Kevin Durant starts to decline in 4-5 years and as The Brow starts his peak.
There may be some reputational latency in the BITW, while the media might stay entrenched in reputing LeBron as the BITW for possibly 2-3 more seasons, but any substantive outlook points to those two as the BITW when it pertains to efficience and two-way impact.
