Question....you try to force yourself to go to sleep @ say 11 oclock what would happen if you just stayed up all night would you be tired in the morning or it doesnt work like that?
Stop trying to force yourself to sleep at night maybe your body is built to stay awake for 32 str8 hours instead of 16.....This is not for the people who have a problem with staying asleep just the people who find it hard to go to sleep at night.

I need 8 hours of sleep to feel good the next day and I cant naturally fall asleep easily until around 5am no matter how long Ive been awake. That doesnt mean I am not dead tired. I just cant sleep because my brain decides to have every thought possible when I lay down.
So unless I want to never have a day job and waste every day sleeping till 1pm... it is a problem.
Luckily I discovered that laying in bed and listening to talk radio or not to interesting podcasts usually distracts my brain enough to knock out.
And for the rare times it doesn't work and I have an important next day I need to be rested for... I just pop a Vicodin or sleeping pill and it works.
My next problem is that I dont get good sleeps. I have very vivid dreams and wake up like 10 times a night tossing and turning. Its rare I can feel rested when I wake up

Umm you are tired and ready to sleep but you just can't sleep. That's insomnia. That should answer most of your questions.

if you've got obligations like school or a night shift at work, then it's harder to **** around and decide this kind of shit on a whim. Even if you do stay up for 24, 48 hours, it's not a 100% foregone conclusion that you'll feel tired and able to sleep like a normal. I can guarantee that you'll feel progressively shittier and with less of a grip on the basic senses you need to function, drive around, etc. You're better off forcing yourself to roll around in bed nonstop until the sun damn nearly comes up for the slim chance that you'll get some sleep out of it.
to tell you my experience, I flat out don't sleep at night. At all. Going to sleep at 5am is a tad early, 11 PM is unthinkable. It's just not going to happen.
Next level dumb here folks.

Maybe OP has just met one of those douchebags who whines about being an insomniac just because they take an hour to get to sleep. That's not what it is.

If you have insomnia you are tired all the time. Just being tired isn't enough.
I mean why don't people with depression just cheer the **** up?

Well when you put it like that :oldlol:
Great example though, I used to think I had insomnia because I would have trouble falling asleep, but I realized that was probably a problem everyone faced now and then. My sleep schedule is all fcked doe, some days I fall asleep at 1am, other days I'm in bed 4am earliest. up at 11am Mon-Thur doe, still get my shit done. Although 2 nights ago for example, I could NOT sleep at all. Went to bed at 3am, didn't fall asleep until 7 :wtf:

I personally feel like total shit if I only get 2 or 3 hours of sleep. Can't speak for others though
I also lift a lot and I won't gain any muscle with 3 hours a night. I need 7 at the very least for decent gains.

I had an episode where I would stay awake for two or three days at a time. As in, I would be dead tired at work, go home, be tired at home, and lay down to go to sleep, and not be able to sleep at all. For days at a time.
So, thats why.

One of the best things you can do for your long-term health is get enough sleep.
When you're younger your body can recover easier, but as you grow older it will start to mess you up. And it's one of those things that just creeps up on you
Your memory is better if get enough sleep and several big diseases are connected to lack of sleep.
