Soundtrack (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOuoIBRwJW-1RgaxYsGgUsTbHREC9U6wn)

Holy shit did this show have a ridiculously good soundtrack. I was on my nostalgia bullshit recently and rewatched the series on Netflix.

Easily the greatest collection of music any series has ever had. Every episode, especially in the middle seasons had at least one iconic piece of music from various genres (Rock, Motown, Blues, Folk, etc). It gave me a real appreciation for the music that was made during this time period, mid 60-early 70s.

And it was also how the music was employed to perfection in flashback montages and scenes like this set to-

The Stylistics- You Are Everything (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a70ZIflrMIM)

The Beach Boys- God Only Knows (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-btZ2KMNo0)

Bob Seger- We've Got Tonight (https://youtu.be/x-i13IOdGeg?t=14m25s)

There are so many more examples using Nat King Cole, the Beatles, Muddy Waters, and on and on.

The only Show that comes close is the Sopranos. But I think there is a large gap between that and TWY.

Winnie is 40 :(

Paul had a successful rock star career in the 90s-00s as Marylin Manson

And she's a bonafide math genius. Wife material.

Urban legend. Kid who played Paul is now a lawyer in NYC. Manson would've been in his late teens when the show started filming whereas the child actors on the show were around 11/12.

I was joking about Paul/MM, that was a big urban legend back in the day...lol

Yeah, Winnie is still hot but whenever I see people who were young when I was young hitting the big 4 oh, I can't help but feel old :(

Nostalgia indeed. I do remember the series having great music, but the Sopranos was more recent and probably my favorite show... so I have bias.

Tony chases Phil with 'Rock the casbah' playing in the background. Hilarious because Tony always thought of Phil as the 'Shah of Iran' (in the actual Clash music video, its some Iranian/Muslim dude dancing around :oldlol: )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb7SWFgSf7o

Music at the end encapsulates Tony to a T. As crazy of a sociopath he was, he still comes out looking like a bad ass. Great scene all-around - and lol @ 'harpo'

The Sopranos = GOAT show, but #2 GOAT soundtrack. Definitely the only show that is in the same realm. The Wonder Years' soundtrack was so stacked they couldn't even put the series out on DVD for decades because they couldn't get all the clearances they needed for the music.

The Sopranos definitely was great at musical endings, even right down to the final scene. David Chase was lucky he had a seasoned musician in Little Steven working on the show to help him with his selections. Some of my favorites (loved the acoustic version of 'I'm not like everybody else' you posted):

Frank Sinatra- It was a Very Good Year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnT7vLIZYYs)

The Rolling Stones- Thru and Thru (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGG6NWi35Ic)

Tindersticks- Tiny Tears (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhsxThJBnTE)

Xzibit- Paparazzi (Instrumental) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgrhigY2GFA)

John Cooper Clark- Evidently Chickentown (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBcbc8eWz6U)

Fred Neil- The Dolphins (https://youtu.be/ZkSoSErQXSk?t=2m55s)

I found out a lot about some great, under the radar artists through the show (ie: John Cooper Clark, The Tindersticks).

Obviously head to head at that time, Kevin's older sister was near her prime while Winnie was a kid. I think what she represents (our first childhood crush) is what makes her attractive.

Winnie was meh, I guess because she was a bunch of years older than me. She's hot as hell now though. For some reason, Topanga was my childhood crush. She was/is fully stacked :pimp:

People are confusing score with soundtrack.

GOAT soundtrack has to be a pre-2000 show due to music licensing changing.

Wonder Years, Freaks and Geeks, and Daria all had great soundtracks. (Whether you like the style of songs or not is another story)

The Kevin Amold episode is in my top 3 of all-time. Staying on the topic of soundtracks it was the first time I was introduced to the song Be My Baby by The Ronettes and because of that episode I love that song! It plays at the end of this episode when Kevin gets the Kevin Amold bracelet back from Madeline just in time for Winnie to see. In the background Madeline is giving Kevin the stalker stare and The Ronettes is playing in the background

The Sopranos is the first thing that came to mind. And Friday Night Lights was something I used Shazam on.

Son's of Anarchy had some really great soundtrack moments. They would end episodes with those big soundtrack montages. But it also had some really horrible soundtrack spots, like the last three seasons in which every episode seemed to feature some weird non-sequitur action set piece with some horrid guitar rock thing blaring. Rescue Me was another FX show that had a good soundtrack. And I really loved Louis' French Pop phase from two seasons ago.

I actually just plowed through the first season of Justified on Amazon and one of the things that's disappointed me was that the soundtrack is almost non-existant so far. That and the episodes still seemed to be following a certain formula, while the overarching story was falling a little flat. But the last few episodes really ramped it up some. Walton Goggins' Boyd Crowder is a great character.

One of my faovrite uses of music in that show was when Kevin was chillin with his Summer crush in a car at the Drive In movies. The jig was up, Summer Loves inevitably have to go home and whatnot. Set to Jackson Browne's, 'Jamaica Say You Will.'

Kevin was and is a giant idiot. Watching the entire series in succession really points out how much of a whiney dumb ass Kevin actually is, certainly no young man to emulate.
