Hi,
I would like to know what makes a player "old school" in your opinion, who are the players in the NBA today that you would call that and why. That term comes with a lot of respect that these players usually have, to call someone "old school" is to call him like, maybe genuine, clever or fundamentally sound or is it just about the old fashioned, "out" not modern playstyle?

I know there are different values that make players old school, so what are they?

Here is my list of 5 players in the NBA todays that could be called old school

1. Andre Miller
When i watched old games from 70s 80s or 90s i noticed that point guards have this habit of protecting ball by turning your back to the player since hand check was legal and they weren't really shooting 3s but instead they would drop it from midrange or close. There's more of course but i think everything about this guy is old school. He's old :D but throughout his career he was a player with great fundamentals, nice post up game, really clever and savvy...

2. Tim Duncan
Bank shot? Staying away from the center of attention? 1 team for 20 years? Great fundamentals on both ends? This guy is great in his old school way.

3. Brandon Roy :/ *
Yeah i know he's not playing anymore, he was really on the path to become a great player if he wasn't already, i think you could really call him a true old school players of new generation

4. Kobe Bryant

This may raise unwanted attention of Kobe/LeBron fanboys/debates but what the heck, this guy is trully old school, regardless of what you say

5. David West

Your thoughts?

Duncan and Kobe are pretty old school, mainly because they played back in the 90's when the game was still different and they haven't really changed their games too much. I wouldn't really know too much about B-Roy, I only ever watched him play once (2011 Game 4 vs Dallas). I could see Andre Miller being old school, he certainly doesn't play like the young guns do.
As for a player who I think plays old school, that's probably Al Jefferson. The dude posts up almost like no other (in the game today), and at least last season he was pretty dang good at it.

Those you mention yes.

David West is the one that immediatly came to mind. He has a very typical 90s power forward game. Strong rebound excellent mid range shot and able to make power moves to the basket from the elbow and all the way to the top of the key. Wants to win, plays hard and sticks to what he is good. Again, that mid range game is lethal and something required to be good in the 90s.

I also like Zack Randolph on Memphis, would fit in nicely with the Knicks or Pistons back in the day.

I also like Rondo and despite his criticism is a true fighter and point guard.
