View Full Version : Best shooting start to a game
72-10

Found this, thought I'd share it.
On Friday, February 25, 1983, Phoenix guard Walter Davis started the game against Seattle scoring 34 points before he finally missed a shot. He made his first 15 field goals and four free throws before missing a jumper with 55 seconds left to play. Larry Costello set the old record in 1961 with 32 straight points for Syracuse.
Of course, Davis finished with 36 points (15-16 fg, 6-6 ft) and the game is largely forgotten today. At the time, this was the record for most points without a miss to start a game.
Anyone heard of this being surpassed?

I once went 15/15 in a game of MyPlayer, but as for beating that in a real game setting? I think I recall Larry Bird going 15/15 in a game once, but I can't seem to find that at the moment. I'll let you know when I find it. At the moment though, that's the best I've seen from Walter Davis.

Turns out I was wrong (or at least I think I am), the closest thing to that perfection was Wilt Chamberlain almost 50 years ago.

Nvm, figured out what they meant when they said it's a record. It's the record for most POINTS to start a game without missing from the field or the line. Wilt, of course, missed at the foul stripe.

Chris Mullin man that guy could shoot the lights out I guess it's the only reason he's in the Hall now I mean who deserves it less than him? 2nd worst player on the Dream Team other than Laettner.

Walter Davis could flat-out ball, a great scorer, could really shoot that thing... I've made a thread about untapped potential a while ago and forgot to mention him, he had recurring back problems but also messed with drugs.
He was one of Jordan's idols, and it's not hard to tell if you watch them both play.

I remember watching Steve Nash's perfect game 5-6 years ago
Something like 20 points 17 assists if I remember correctly, he had a few games like that

If I recall the article correctly, Chamberlain hit his first 18 FGAs in a game on 11/27/63, in which he finished 18-19 from the floor, and 2-3 from the line and for 38 points. Not sure when he missed the FTA, though. BTW, I don't believe he played the 4th quarter in that game, either.
Of course, he holds the three highest perfect games from the field, though, albeit he was not perfect from the line.
18-18 and 6-14
16-16 and 5-7
15-15 and 2-6
All of those perfect FGA games came in his '66-67 season. Oh, and he also had a 16-17 FG/FGA, 9-11 FT/FTA game in that same season.
Incidently, he made 35 straight FGAs that year, as well.
