Sure we can look at the team make up surrounding the player in question, etc, etc, etc, but when it comes down to it, players like Kobe and Bron and even worse AI really think/thought that they are good enough that they should be putting up as many shots as they are/did. These guys think they have the shooting ability of Jordan and they never did. If you are an intelligent player, at some point you need to assess yourself and say to yourself, look... I'm just not as good of a shooter as Jordan was so I need to approach getting a win in a different way.
A player that comes to mind that would know how to make the right decision if they were put into AI, Kobe, or Bron's shoes would be Duncan.
The other question, is this: had Jordan not been such a damn good shooter, would he himself had the ability to cut back on his number of attempts per game or would he just have been another Kobe/Bron/AI and chuck his teams out of wins?
5/7 and 2/6 (especially last season) kind of speak for themselves, but 6/6 had alot to do with taking a ton of shots AND actually making them.

MJ 1998: TS% .516 with 164 FGA
Lebron 2015 TS% .447 with 196 FGA
Kobe 2004 TS% .45 with 113 FGA
I'm sure other years in the finals look similar, but if you look at true shooting % in comparison to FGA, the final losses for Bron and Kobe in this sample selection are due to them shooting themselves out of the game at low clip. Jordan can take 164 attempts in 1998 for example because he has a high true shooting % of .516, resulting in a win. Kobe and Bron on the other hand, with far lower TS% found themselves losing. If they would have just shot better, they would have won. Such is the key factor separating the GOAT from the rest of the pack. Shooting a ton and doing it at a very very effective clip.
