Come 2017, FIBA will schedule World Cup qualifying games in the middle of the NBA season. The NBA has stated that it will not allow it's players a break from the NBA season to play in these qualifying games. Instead, the USA will most likely send D-League players to qualify. Not sure what others Countries are going to do.

My good friend euroleague told me d-leaguers aren't good enough to qualify and the NBA will change it's schedule to fit in with FIBA

This should be very entertaining
There are 7 spots available for american teams... so even a hastily-assembled bunch of d-leaguers or Americans playing overseas will probably manage to qualify
Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, USA are sure picks
However Canada, P Rico and Dominican Republic may fail to qualify without NBAers

aren't there many foreign players playing at the NCAA Division 1 off of scholarships already
if OP's statement stands corrected and is true. The team USA ought to technically have an above average chance at qualifying.
The NBA statement is way more worrying for Italy than it is for the USA.
<--- without these 3 guys (Datome isn't in the NBA anymore) we may not be competitive enough in the European group.

A team of D-League players would be undefeated in Euroleague every year, so no big deal.

That's it. Both of you are banned.

Strange, because I told you this for like 2 years now, and you kept saying "it will NEVER EVER happen".
I guess your delusional fantasy land finally crashed.

Team USA had elite college players and some of the best American players from Europe and they finished in 3rd place at the freaking Pan American Games, where teams were sending junior players and national B selection teams, not Team USA US sports media "B Team", ACTUAL national B selections.
They lost to freaking Puerto Rico.......that was using more of its main team, but still missing some players, by 32 points.
They lost to Brazil, that was their actual B selection, the same team that went 1-4 at 2015 FIBA Americas.
If you think such a team would qualify to the Olympics, playing against the ACTUAL best players of other FIBA Americas teams, then you are absolutely certifiably insane.
And before you call me a troll and a liar, like you always do, because you are an enormous a-hole and a moron, here are the results and roster to prove it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_at_the_2015_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%9 3_Men%27s_team_rosters
And remember, the teams at FIBA Americas Championship were NOT even the best players of those teams either. Venezuela won the tournament and beat Canada (with 9 NBA players), without its 2 best players even playing.
Anyone that thinks a team of some D-League players, some college players, some Americans playing in Europe, basically the Pan American US team could qualify, is completely absolutely nuts.

The last time we sent our Euro players, we managed to grab the bronze in the 1998 FIBA World Championship.
I think we should do this to give other countries a chance.:confusedshrug:

Yeah, because the level of worldwide basketball now is clearly the same as it was in 1998............

Who cares wat you say? You'll going to get stomped in 2016. Changing the rules in 17 means noting because the nba isn't changing its schedule.

So once we qualify ... with lower seeding of course, can we still send in the super soldier players for the tournament and molly whop all these countries still?
Or do we have to stick with the D league qualifying team? Who lets be honest, could still probably compete all things considering.

They would not qualify.
Anyone saying they would is psychotic.
And they would NOT send D-League or college players.
Anyone that believes that is clearly retarded.
They would either send NBA players, or they would stop playing.
To even discuss any other possibility is ludicrous.

The NBA will never compete at the tournament idiot. They could never qualify with a D-League team, and they would never send one either.
Anyone that thinks that has automatically proven their IQ is below 65.
They are obviously lying.
They either send NBA players or they don't play at the tournament anymore.
They are just bullshitting and trying to scare FIBA. But FIBA will not fall for it and won't give a damn, because the tournament makes enormous money, and none of it comes from Team USA at all. Which is what FIBA has been telling the NBA for like the last 5 years, and they kept refusing to listen to them.
Mark Cuban can go open up his "NBA World Championship" where "only NBA players can play".
And Team USA can play against a "world team" in one game, that consists of the leftover players that didn't play in the actual tournament........
Then after it goes bankrupt, he can STFU.
Every single person that thinks for one second this is even remotely true (NBA sending D-League players to qualify for World Cup), should be embarrassed.

Good. After last summers shellacking, its only natural USA levels the playing field.
What was the championship game decided by? 30+ points? Watching Goliath slaugter midgets isn't exactly fun. :confusedshrug:

If by leveling the playing field? you mean not actually competing at all.........then I guess you are right.
D-League players would lose every qualification game to any even half decent team from the Americas region. Chance of qualification is zero.

Take away NBA players from the rest of the world, and they would have nothing but D-League level players left. It would be a wide open tournament.

Yep...pretty much D-Leaguers all around.
Scrubs that could easily be replaced by second tier college players (and nowhere near first round material.)

NBA isn't going to allow ANY of it's players to compete in an International qualifier mid-season. That means that European and South American countries will be without their NBA players as well.
In other words, the FIBA World Cup will be looked at like a joke. The US will qualify with D-Leaguers, then send our B-Team (just like last time) and sweep the tournament.

Pretty crazy to say that they would lose every qualifying game. I think they'd definitely have a tougher run and maybe lose a couple of times but when you have guys who bounced around the D League like Weems and Goudelock crushing it in Europe I think they'd be able to qualify without a doubt.

A significant part comes from TV broadcasting. And USA would bring a lot to the table in terms of american broadcast and international broadcasters interested in showing their games (here in Spain for instance, when there's Olympics or the FIBA WC they always show Spain and USA, all their games, they do show other games of course, specially in the latter stages they show all, but those two, 100% of their games. I assume it's very similar in other countries)
It's true though, either of them would have take a backstep, I don't think they would qualify with D-Leaguers, they would need incredible coaching. Plus aren't most D-League players like a train-wreck or something?

Nigeria qualified the last time in the Olympic beating Greece with Aminu and scrubs. Ike Diogu had a beastly game  against Greece softening their big stiffs with 17 points and 12 boards.
Goudeluck came straight from DLeague and won the Eurocup MVP and was an All Euroleague Team leading Fener to Euroleague Final Four with 25 ppg.:applause:
