there was a trade as part of the deal when the franchises were swapped


even the draft rights to bird were left behind


the nba didnt want the celtics name to leave boston. so when the celtics moved to LA the new owner left the name behind aswell


it was a franchise trade with a player/draft rights trade involved



which is why the new celtic owners ( the sandiego clippers owners ) were paying the celtic salaries from past employees
