tl;dr bernie sanders cannot beat hilary clinton
but what a breath of fresh air this guy is. supporters of his message, if not his campaign or his overall platform, should not be discouraged if he only manages 25% of the primary vote. the mere fact that income inequality is now a mainstream conversation means the traditional parties can only prolong the inevitable, or completely revamp their agendas. it'll be a tough fight but the trends are very optimistic.

It's shocking, almost alarming, that people would vote for a socialist for president.
But, the mob mentality is strong these days. Convince stupid people that someone is the bad guy, and never tell them the truth, and they'll do what you say. See: Middle East, Africa

differentiate socialism from communism from leninism from marxism for a second if you please? i'm confused and amused by your lumping together that strange collection of countries.
socialism is a very moderate framework to inform your social policy... social policies which, by virtue of your being american and living under american laws your entire life, are common sense to you even though they are govt funded

Sanders isn't a "socialist" and I don't even know the word for him. He doesn't just want to redistribute existing wealth. He wants mass spending increases of money that doesn't exist.
I don't know how many of you here actually delve into candidates fiscal proposals, but Sanders is a dangerous person. This guy wants to increase spending by $18 trillion. THIS is why the DNC isn't happy about Bernie. They know his reckless spending ideas are not going to go over well with the general public.

the word socialism has an intellectual history that seeped into mass culture during the 1800s
just because several states declare themselves as socialist, does not make it so
the nazis certainly weren't socialists yet its right there in the party title
the modern conservative party in commonwealth countries has virtually nothing to do with the conservatism as it was understood during the enlightenment. the definition of that word is even more twisted in the united states than it is everywhere else. its doctrine has come to include a collection of completely absurd and hypocritical positions.
the core of socialism is workers control over the means of production
north koreans can't even sniff control over consumption
hell according to that definition, which i'd be happy to defend, the soviet union completely undermined socialism as soon as lenin seized control. 1917 wasn't a workers revolution by any stretch of the imagination, and it would be more accurate to call it a coup.
one thing is for certain; the "Soviet System" did not practise socialism
here is an enlightening five minutes on why everybody believes the soviet union was a socialist state (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Z05xyGB0c)

wtf r u saying?
that the money all just DISAPPEARED
its in somebody's pockets you numbskull
pockets that now account for 0.1% of the population but 90% of the wealth

If I moved to Sweden tomorrow, I don't think it makes any sense that I would ever be able to collect any government benefits. As it is, they would be doing me a favor by letting me live in their country. I think if you move to another country, you should have to make it on your own.

Those countries you mention, specifically the ones in NE Europe, have a higher quality of a life for many reasons, many of which has nothing to do with their economic set up.
They are all borderline socialist states, with generous welfare benefits and lots of redistribution of wealth. Yet they don’t let that socialism cross the line into autocracy. Civil liberties are abundant (consider decriminalized drugs and prostitution in the Netherlands). There are few restrictions on the flow of capital or of labor. Legatum’s scholars point out that Denmark, for example, has little job protection, but generous unemployment benefits. So business owners can keep the right number of workers, while workers can have a safety net while they muck around looking for that fulfilling job.
But you take the good with the bad. For every prosperous socialist country, there are as many that aren't so awesome. Those countries also happen to be sparsely populated (minus Hong Kong, obviously). Many of those countries have been rich for decades, or in the case of Denmark and others, hundreds of years.
Here's the deal with capitalism... Some people have to be poor. Now, I'm guessing people who are pro-socialism think nobody should be poor. That's fine, and a valid argument. I disagree and think there are winners and losers in life.
The most important difference between us and them, though, is the character of our population. It's the same reason you can't compare crime statistics between the US and Europe, we are different people. While Norway has one illegal immigrant for every 338 people (5mil/15,000), the US has one illegal for every 10 people (300m/30m). If Norway had, say, 500,000 illegal immigrants not paying taxes as opposed to 15,000, they may be singing a different tune. They don't have drug problems. They don't have many of the issues we have here. They are a different people. That's like comparing the US to China (a semi-capitalist country recently). The two countries are nothing alike. In fact, no country on this planet is quite like the US.
As I said, Europeans have a high quality of life for many reasons. You chose to ignore the shitty socialist countries, ironically. You believe in 'everyone gets a trophy'. I don't. I believe people who 'cant find a job' (despite seeing help wanted signs everywhere) who are in need of welfare should work for it. The state of Maine thought so too, and nearly 80% of their welfare recipients suddenly stopped requesting welfare once the state enacted a law requiring 20 hours of work per week. 20 hours. You think 10,000 of the 12,500 recipients weren't scamming the system? But you want to do that nationwide right?

So it sounds like Biden is definitely running.
It might seem counter-intuitive in many ways, but I think this may work to Bernie's advantage in the long run.
Sanders needs to debate Clinton as many times as possible. With Joe Biden in the race, the DNC won't be able to whittle down the debates as much as they'd like.
