NBA season is almost upon us; it's time to put your managerial skills to test, OTC fantasy has a rich history, so let's get things rolling.

Head-to-head league with daily line ups, 12 team league (might add more if there is interest)

Standard Cats + OR, FG% and FT% instead of FTM.

PM me your email address for invites.

I'll play. I think I may have played last season, or in the NFL one.

NBA fantasy is just so much more time consuming than NFL if you do H2H scoring as opposed to categories. Im in one league already but two aint no thang.

What's wrong with that? I won't insist on it if peeps don't like it though.

What's wrong with that? I won't insist on it if peeps don't like it though.

Maybe it's just a personal preference. I'm going to copy paste a response I had in a debate about someone regarding point leagues/why I dislike them:

Because your points league probably has some arbitrary bullshit scoring that undervalues certain stats (points, rebounds, assists all being worth equal or steals/blocks being worth the same as points) or arbitrarily overvalues other stats (double doubles are worth a bonus, so the 10/10 guy is far more valuable than the 14/9 guy) etc. And even then, some points leagues will have pts=1pt, assists = 2, steals = 2.5 (or whatever), but it's equally arbitrary and nonsensical. Why is an assist worth double that of a point? How do you quantify the value of a certain statistic? You can't, it's arbitrary and meaningless. However in the categories format, the relative abundance of that stat is built into the category itself.

Then some points leagues don't include negative points for shots attempted (essentially fg%, which is incredibly important in basketball). Even if it does, maybe the points league subtracts a point for a missed shot, but doesn't award a bonus for a 3pointer, which makes 3pt specialists nearly worthless. This is highly contrary to real life where the spacing provided by 3pt shooters is extremely valuable. At the end of the day, fantasy is supposed to emulate real life, and points leagues do not do that at all. The category system (9cat in particular, 8cat without TO is just awful), while not perfect, is much more true to life.

For example, post your league's scoring rules. I've yet to see one which is fair, balanced, and adequately emulates the game of basketball.

So, if you have the settings finely tweaked - it could be legit. But as I said in the quote, I've yet to see a point league with actual fair, balanced scoring which doesn't highly overvalue certain players while making others useless. If no one else has a problem with points leagues you can ignore my ass though lol

I didn't change anything from the default values set by Y!, I just added 0.5 value for Offensive Rebounds as I mentioned in the OP. Again I clearly stated we could tweak the settings as people would like to or we could just make it a standard CAT league. Here are the point values per category:

http://i.imgur.com/ZtoR6i2.png

PS: At the end of the day, it's the same issue of Roto vs Cat, you draft your players based on how the league awards wins and points. If you think one specific category is more rewarding, then you choose players based on that.

I didn't mean to call out your particular settings, in fact I really like the .5 added for OREB... but it doesn't fix the problem with points leagues IMO. I'll try to illustrate.

Just right there, I don't see any missed points for missed shots or free throws... basically rewards chuckers and shitty ft shooters. Dwight and DeAndre are HUGE liabilities at the line in real life and should penalize a fantasy team the same way they penalize the Clips and Rockets.

Points gives the edge to people who steal over blockers, since there are a lot more steals than there are blocks (in real life), but they have equal point scoring. With these settings a 15/7/2 guard is worth more than a 12/10/2 bigman... the opposite of actual basketball where guards with those stats are interchangable, a dime a dozen, but a double double rim protecting big man is a major force... ask yourself is Kemba Walker more valuable than Tyson Chandler?

A 3pt also counts for 3 points + 1.5 from the points scored, so 3pt shooters have a huge skew.

Here's the main issue... someone like Harden is unquestionably better than Anthony Davis under these settings... is that really the case in actual basketball, though? Last season, Harden's 27/6/7/2/.7 with 2.5 treys gives him about 65 points to Davis' 24/10/2/1.5/3 giving him 54... is Harden THAT much better than Davis? Harden gets more TOs but I didn't even count the considerably more shots AND free throws made by him, which would advantage Harden even further under point settings. Whereas in categories settings Harden has great FT% counterbalanced by Davis' great FG%, harden AST is balanced by Davis REB, Harden STL balanced by Davis BLK, Harden hurts a bit more in TO but has a slight advantage in PTS. You could construct a team around either Harden OR Davis, whereas in points scoring it's just too bad for the guy who ended up with Davis instead of Harden.

Points leagues just leave a bad taste in my mouth where Harden and Durant (and Curry) are 1/2/3 with guys like LeBron and Davis CLEARLY worse than them scoring less points. In my eyes if the value of Harden and Curry is substantially greater than LeBron, then the point of fantasy leagues has been missed altogether. I just can't get behind that.

Also with cats, each player can draft however they want since no one category is worth more than another. Player A can focus on winning assists, blocks, rebs, and player B could go for TO, AST, FG% while player C goes for 3pt, STL, Points (as an example)

Anyway, it's pretty clear where I stand, I prefer categories. I'm not trying to be confrontational, this is my honest opinion on the matter. I've probably spent way too much time thinking about fantasy basketball :oldlol: But I'm game for whatever happens sign me up

Well, I keep telling you I'm open to a conversation, I'm thinking about these tweaks:

Everyone notice and weight in:
3ptm 3>2.5
Steals 3>2.5
FTM 1>0.5

PS: You get penalized the same if you pick DJ because he won't give FTM, also AD made 1.5 shots per game more than Harden. You only look at this stuff one way, just because there is no negative points doesn't mean it truly doesn't hurt you. Also that -2 for TOs gonna **** a lot of G pickers.

More people need to weight in for the scoring settings, as of right now it's standard Cat + OR and FG%. I added FG% to account for missed shots and award efficiency.

damn, big men are going to be key in this league.....

Big men are generally more efficient anyway.

Bigs - RB's of NFL fantasy
Guards - WR's of NFL fantasy

Going to get more consistency out of your bigs, most of the time, as rebounds and clean up buckets will always be there. In my actual league, Davis was consistent, but it was Westbrook and Harden that were dropping 100 point nights.

My team is not so bad considering it's an autodraft who drafted. No done-for-a-season guys means it is good enough.

I don't see a team I can't take down. My only real weakness is assists. If Deron can get healthy then I own this league

****......I wish I coulda joined earlier, it autodrafted chris paul over lebron and westbrook :facepalm
CP has much better assist rate, plus better steals and lower turnovers than Lebron. Westbrook crazy stats from the latter half of last season was from the fact that Durant injured.

You need more assists, 3's, and blocks.

I guess subconsciously, I went for the OReb/DReb/Block/FG% categories.

Drafted 5 PF/C's in a row. Just need PG and Butler to anchor me and we rolling.
