Everyone here who rags on Euro ball isn't aware of the massive joke that is that current NBA is almost exactly like FIBA Euroball in the 90s.
For those who grew up in Europe in the 90s playing ball we all laughed at how soft and boring Euroball was back then and how NBA was much better.
Some things in current NBA which is like FIBA ball in the 90s:
1) Guards are not 1 and 2 guards but only 'guards'
This was one of the biggest differences between NBA and FIBA ball in the 90s. In the NBA in the 90s there were very clear differences between the point guard and the shooting guard. The point guard passed the ball and the shooting guard shot the ball. On the other hand, in 90s FIBA ball, you had two 'guards' who were not either point guards or shooting guards, just 'guards' who shot and passed, but couldn't hold a candle to NBA point guards passing wise, think Tony Parker. Now every guard in the NBA is also such a combo guard who can't pass or lead a team.
2) Soft bigs
How we laughed at the Euro bigs who would rather shoot 3s than bang in the low post. They were really a laughing stock. Now all NBA bigs work more on their 3 point shot instead of low post game. Ironically, it is now the Euro bigs who can play the low post game with skill like Pau Gasol.
3) Drive and kick being only offensive play
This was also something everyone shook their head about. In the 90s the FIBA players all basically only did one move, which was pick and roll for a guard who penetrated and then kicked out to a 3 point shooter. They would almost pass up free layups to do this. We see this all the time now, players passing up good mid range opps and layups to kick it out to a 3 point shooter.
4) Flopping
Enough said. This was practically unheard of in the NBA in the 90s.
The very real fact is that the NBA today is basically FIBA ball in the 90s just with more athletic players.
Kids today don't even realize that they're cheering for what is actually boring FIBA ball.
Anyone who watched both in the 90s will agree with me.
