Would you guys buy a 2008 saturn astra with 102k? I'm scared because they no longer make saturns. Price is 4100.

Or would you buy a 2005 hyundai elantra with 99k? Price is 3100.

Is seasonal rust a concern in your region? If so see which one has less rust. If not, I'd go with the one with less mileage. Look up reviews on both car models too. By now there should be other people with high mileage on those years/models perhaps they could add insight on if anything tends to go wrong with one or the other. If both seem like a decent car just get the cheaper lower mileage one.

Post has been taken off.

For some reason, people put fake ads on craigslist. I have no idea what they get out of it. I, of course, never respond because I know when something is too good to be true.

Cars can go way past 100k nowadays. If you are looking for a beater make sure you got someone/a reputable mechanic to check it out before you purchase. When I buy a used car over 80k miles I set aside 1,000 before i even make the purchase to cover any repairs that come up in the first 6 months.

It's a scam, they make you pay something upfront and you never hear from em again. Usually they say they will "ship in the car" which is key to know you're about to be ****ed (unless you buying a lambo or some crazy shit).

Stay away from used American cars, while they are good, Japanese are better.

I would suggest that you skip either car and look for a used Civic or Mazda 3. If you can't find those then look for a Corolla or a Sentra.

Any Japanese car with 100k will easily last you for another 100k, few things besides regular maintenance you might run into are things like needing a new alternator, starter or AC not working, but they're not expensive to replace.

saturns are terrible, plastic cars.

hyundai's are great but personally i don't like elantra's. get a Sonata.

and honestly you're buying shit that is right at the end of its warranty. for that much i'd think u could get a much better deal.

saturns were "ok" as brand new cars back in the day. they even won some car awards. but 100k on a saturn is pretty much the phase when most owners go "i f--king hate this piece of shit."

Get a Toyota or Honda. Reliable, cheap, and when you inevitably bring them in for repairs, it wont feel like getting prison raped raw

Don't know where you are, Japanese cars may not have European "refinement", but they are far more reliable for someone that does not have money to throw at expensive repairs or maintenance, like the op.

They are good at what they do, get you from A to B without much headaches.

Never buy a used car, just pay for a new one with monthly installments and shit.

I would advise a Mazda on a budget. The repair bills are astronomical. I own American and so far not any major problems and I'm well over 150000. American cars are so far evolved now. Hondas are overrated. They're more pop culture due to the amount of aftermarket parts.
I have a 07 Cobalt SS. It's serviced me pretty good and my job is driving all day.

Yea people aren't thinking about repairs, Mazda is a no no especially the ones made here. If we were in Europe, I would say **** it go for it. Since you're on a budget op, American is the way to go. Strong, reliable, and cheap to maintain. Not to mention sexy cars, how great is our country? You look like a truck guy, check out some Fords in your area and see what you got.

Not really. If you buy a used car for like 10k when a new one is 17k you'll spend at least 7k on eventual repairs plus it has a shorter lifespan.

If you're going to get a used car, it needs to be extremely cheap e.g. under $2500k so that if it goes to shit you won't have much sunk cost thrown away. But if you get a pricier used car and pay up front it's a huge risk. Much better to pay like $300-400 a month for 5 years on a reliable car that will last you a long time.
