The guy hasn't gone through a season healthy since he was 17 and a senior in high school

and he just suffered his worst injury to date with the shattered knee cap... how come no one really points to this... there are red flags all over the place

all of these new age point guards that can get buckets while penetrating are great but when you have someone with that physical stature going to the rim for the majority of their shots.... the injuries are inevitable.

all of these point guards ends up busting themselves up
Derrick Rose
Russell Westbrook
Kyrie Irving
Eric Bledsoe.... the list keeps going

When will he be labeled as a perpetually injured player like how d rose is
I don't see the injuries stopping if he keeps up this style of play

I attended 35 of the cavs home games last year and other than varejao this guy is on the floor under the basket more than anyone in the league

LBJ needs some luck because this Cleveland experiment can implode very fast if this keeps up

what are your thoughts?

Irvings injuries are more varied than Roses. Sure he's getting hut alot but it isn't the same chronic degenerative issues over and over.

As long as he's healthy in April.

Love/LeBron is a much better fit and I expect the offense to be elite while Irving is out.

Cavs aren't doing shit if he isn't healthy for playoffs so they better limit his minutes all-season long. Luckily his injury issues haven't been serious but it is obvious that that can change quickly. He is not built for constant contact.

He played the third most minutes per game in the NBA this past season. LeBron was 5th.

That is just way too many, which is where I think signing Mo Williams will help quite a bit. There really was no viable reserve for Kyrie all season long. Yeah, Delly could give you minutes, but his game is nothing like Kyrie's and -- Delly is so offensively challenged -- Blatt would often play them together.

LeBron was really the only other reliable ball-handler on the team and he had enough to worry about without having to be Kyrie's backup.

The only other guy was Dion Waiters and we all saw how that ended.

This coming season, we actually have a guy who can step in at the 1 and replicate some of what Kyrie does.

In terms of injuries, it's obviously not an ideal situation thus far, but the good thing -- as you rightly pointed out -- is that this is his first really "serious" injury and it is a broken bone. Bones heal, while ligaments, tendons and cartilage do not.

Things could be much worse, if he had accompanying cartilage damage with his broken kneecap. There wasn't any.

Outside of that, it has mainly been random bumps and bruises. I'm sure it has something to do with the way he attacks the basket at his size. He might have to temper that style of play a bit and maybe focus more on the pull-up than taking the ball all the way to the basket so often.

Yeah, the team really is in a much better position this year. So fortunate that the knee issue isn't as serious as it looked. Bron has also taken a ton of mileage the last few years so ideally they rest him and kyrie whenever possible and have them primed for what will be an epic finals. Spurs, warriors and thunder will not be a joke this year.

You've been saying that since his rookie season.
The guy is simply prone to injury.

I have been saying it since his rookie season because it was and remains 100% accurate. :oldlol:

Unless you can point to one recurring injury or one potentially degenerative injury, you've failed to disprove the statement. I think "random bumps and bruises "pretty much sums it up.

Most of the games he has missed in his career came in his first two seasons. He just played back-to-back seasons of 70+ games, including averaging the third most minutes per game in 75 appearances this past year.

He fractured his kneecap in the playoffs, the most serious injury he has ever sustained -- by far.
