Good read, I was fascinated by sharks growing up. Jaws also scared me so bad I haven't been in the ocean since I was 12. And I never plan on going in.

Right there with ya. If I close my eyes and picture myself in the middle of the ocean I get sweaty and nervous.

I'm 23 years old.

Drowning would be horrible but nothing compared to being burned/eaten alive imo

Terrifying beyond belief.

I went to the same highschool as the late great, Louis Zamperini, and he had a similar story. The man spent 40+ days adrift at sea, fending off/seeing sharks eat his crew...only to be "rescued" by the Japanese who imprisoned and later abused him. He survived all of that, and lived for 70 more years...

Pretty crazy how watching a movie and getting the crap scared out of you can influence you even as an adult. I also watched Jaws as a kid and because of that I can't relax at the beach, even in shallow waters, even more so with those shark attacks in shallow waters that happened over the summer.

Forget going on cruise ships, hell fvcking no.

A couple dozen to a possible max estimate of 150 died from sharks but it's still a lot and horrifying. The worst tragedy is the late response from the navy. These poor men were in the water for four days.

I would love nothing more than to see a Great White shark up close and personal. Put me in a cage and toss as much chum as you can and let that f*cker bite, bump the gate. I wanna stare the f*ck in its eyes

one thing on my bucket list is going cage diving in Guadalupe island off the coast of mexico. there is a charter boat from san diego that takes you on a 2-3 day "cruise".

There's been a lot of books written on it.

I like history, WW2 is one of my favorites. I've read numerous stories on this incident. Guys said the sharks would come up to feed all night. You bundled together, and hoped it wasn't your foot they grabbed.

They were operating on radio silence. The Indianapolis had just delivered materials for the atomic bomb.
