Good deal for both sides IMO.

Literally just 3-4 years ago a promising young big would often get something like 5 years/53 million. I think Rondo also got somethin along those lines. TT is getting 53 in 3 years.

And with the cap continuing to rise its not really that much of a big deal. They had no other options with that money anyway.

Cavs need to get the deal done so regardless of what the deal looks like don't think they should catch heat for it. Crazy how much contracts are rising and how much better older contracts look now tho. Faried signed a 4 year 50 mill deal in '14 and Thompson is about to maybe ink a 3 year 53 mill deal. 13 mill more for one less year

^^^There is no hint there that Broussard is saying anything other than it is a done deal and the signing is in the bag.

Then begins a very quick back-peddle. Just 25 minutes after those tweets ...

Most analysts believe a solid starter will earn $15m a year in the new CBA.
TT is probably an above average starter, and also as RBA has explained, the Cavs don't have room to add a replacement so he is a strong position to command a little more money.

I'd say he is a first option as a rebounder. Not paying him to be a 2nd option scorer here.

Wasn't he being offered 5 years guaranteed at 80 something million? For a player that relies on athleticism he should take that security. How many houses do you need? This is all his agent trying to screw him for a bonus probably.

Tough situation for the Cavs, can they really afford to let him walk? I think if they wanted him bad enough they would have reached a deal by now, why not invest in a 2-3 year championship run? Make the most of LeBron while you still have him.

Well if all the good players get hurt again and JR Smith shits himself in the finals again, Im gonna tend to give him a pass.

I mean it helps that he whipped out his package in the last finals to inspire his team and take two wins from a historically good squad with no help, but I dont know if doing that again can get them all the way over the hump next time. I dont know if he'll unleash the fire hose again.

I mean I hope so :yaohappy: , but I dunno

The report from Broussard was transparently absurd. The Cavs have Tris next year for 6.8M. Period. Nothing TT can do about that. Even if he sits the season out, the Cavs would then have matching rights the following year.

So why on EARTH would they give him 3/53? That essentially means they would be paying him more than LeBron for the part of the contract they aren't already locked into. And if his agent told him it was done how could you not ask the Cavs FO before reporting it? Especially a nonsensical deal that the Cavs immediately chortled at?

if he signs the qualifying offer, then he becomes unrestricted next summer

its what happened with monroe leaving detroit for milwaukee

If he signs the QO the Cavs get him for 1 year at 6.9M. And if that is the case he OBVIOUSLY isn't going to be sitting out the season.

Which is the whole point. Why would the Cavs pay 3/53 if they have him for 1/6.9? Do you seriously think he is worth 2/46.1 after this year? Because that essentially makes him more valuable than LeBron, KLove (who signed this offseason as an UNRESTRICTED FA), and Kyrie.

The math doesn't work. Its insanity.
