Any alien civilisation that had access to FTL travel and could invade earth would utterly steamroll us. 70 years ago we introduced nukes, so it's impossible to try even imagining the war capabilities of a massively more advanced power. I'd disagree. Advancement in travel doesn't necessarily mean advancement in military. China is far more technology advanced but we'd smash them in a war. They have every potential to be a docile species.

if aliens advanced that far then saying it's simply "advancement in travel" isn't doing the progress justice. They would be circumventing the light- speed limit without exploding. Who know's what kind of advanced math they have access to and what else it would allow these aliens to do

The gap is beyond comprehension. Although I suppose it is theoretically possible that they could have some cultural emphasis on pacifism, this is an invasion scenario.

Even if their intent wasn't to blow us all to death, they could have things that could unintentionally ruin us. A disease, some sort of power source, who knows.

I think how there were communities that were safe from zombie apocalypse like the end of "I am Legend" movie is reasonably possible. Of course the only downside is, if it's like the movie, "Zombieland," then I'm not sure. I'm sure if it get's boring very quickly being on your own or not having much human interaction will eventually make a person careless and more prone to a zombie attack.

I never finished the movie, "28 Days Later" but I've heard that's another great zombie apocalypse type of movie. Only watched like the first 20 minutes but it didn't interest me enough to finish it.

Aliens and it isn't even close. Anything intelligent enough to get here from another planet/galaxy is a far bigger problem than something that couldn't even scratch its own ass.

alien invasion might have a silver lining. they could be here not to wipe us out but to bring is into their civilization.

besides, there's a theory that only a civilization who has reached enlightenment can reach FTL travel. (because warlike civilizations ultimately destroy themselves before they can invent FTL) so they'd be pretty peaceful, or at least benevolent.
