Speaking to “Jutarnji list” while he is in Croatia for the Zadar tournament, Pero Antic spoke about the incident with him and Thabo Sefolosha in a New York nightclub, while both were Atlanta Hawks players, accusing the police about racism and brutality.

“We were in the wrong place at the wrong time, but in the NBA nights out are not forbidden. Thabo was out of the car to give a beggar $20 and suddenly the police began to brutally push him. I went out to see what was going on as he weighs just 20 pounds. It was the pure racism that rules America. Thabo is a black man and all the officers were white. I did not want to leave him alone and they arrested me. We never got an explanation for their behavior. Police there is killing people and nothing happens”.

It's probably a typo. He probably said "just 200". That would be my guess. 222 (what he Thabo is listed at) is pretty damn small for a 6'7" guy, again what Sefolosha is listed at. Actually, it's downright puny as hell. So he does have a point.

There's a lot of racism in Europe as well... In France Arabs are something like seven times more likely to get controlled by police... and we know that because of a study that was technically illegal, since ethnic statistics of any kind aren't allowed. In Italy politicians think they can get away with comparing the lone black minister the country has to an "orang-utang". Far right parties are gaining ground everywhere, and in places like Hungary and Greece they even have a powerful neonazi party.

The big differences are:
1) Institutional racism is much more likely to cause deaths in America because of guns and "use of force" standards
2) There is a much bigger reaction against racism in America (partly because of 1). There is a tradition of actively confronting the problem and calling it by its name, from civil rights struggles to Black Lives Matter.
