what is the maintenance cost for either of these vehicles, and how often for oil change, tire rotation, maintenance, etc?
let's say a BMW series 3 and a Cadillac Ats

My parents have owned BMWs and let me tell you this: do not buy one unless you have tons of money for repairs and maintenance.

The quality is certainly not what you'd expect for what you're paying and be ready to get prison raped as you take it in for repairs. What you're buying is a status symbol. Not performance. Not reliability.

I got a Beamer for a great deal a few years ago, and I do think compared to the other cars I've driven its performance is unbelievably good. But I still agree. Repair costs are ridiculous, and I was way in over my head thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, especially at first.

If that isn't an issue for you, by all means, but there is an element of wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze with expensive cars. Take good care of it and don't screw up the things that are within your control when it comes to the car.

This. My parents owned one, but they finally gave up on it and it sits in my cousin's barn. I think they replaced everything on it below 100,000 miles. Parts are expensive and the service shops will charge you double just because its a BMW.

I have a Cadillac cts v and my wife has a 5 series bmw and they're nice cars but are expensive to keep up with... You would think that Cadillacs are well made but they're not I've had to replace the computer, catalytic converters, and it burns oil like crazy

Far as a bmw my wife hadn't had to do to much to her outside of regular maintence which can run you anywhere between $300-$425

My Benz is at 130k miles and had little to no repair issue. Tires are expensive though.

I'll get another Benz after I feel like this one is done.

Got a cts, tires will get you for at least $200 per. Get full synthetic oil changes(100 bucks or maybe a bit cheaper depending on where you get it done), a bit more pricey but you go longer between oil changes as well. Repairs can get expensive though, but if you get it new you shouldn't have to worry much until it gets up in age (think like 80-90k). Just keep in mind luxury vehicles not only have a higher sticker price, maintenance can be a killer.

For the service portion I don't think the difference is much because labor costs are comparable for most cars and would depend on the shop you went to.

Now parts for German cars tend to be expensive if you stick with OEM but if you went with generic parts but you can find plenty of cheap parts made in China.

Really from experience it seems best to get rid of all cars before the warranty ends, if you're the new car kind of guy.

Friends & family all had BMWs.. and every single one of that had issues with coolant.. whether it was burning or leaking.

My girl has a BMW, she does maintenance (oil change etc.) once a year.
Parts & repairs are expensive though, so don't buy a used BWM unless you make decent money.

That applies to all cars unless you are sentimentally attached to one.

You can't compare the class of a Honda to a Mercedes, how about you get a Lexus and see if it's still a European thing. Fact of the matter is, driving luxury class cars is expensive.

As long as you take your car in to get serviced when you are supposed to you aren't going to see massive repair work. You understand that getting a new a car every 3 years is far more expensive than just paying for repairs right?

Because they aren't as good nor as established? Although I agree that BMW have regressed a lot and just feed off their brand now.

That's what 2-3 year leasing is for.

I got my Porshe Macan a month ago and Absolutely love it , but took a 3 year lease in case I change my mind in the upcoming years. Buy back is low so I can always keep it long term as well

yeah i know about leases. i got a great deal on my current car though so im not really gonna lose much on it.

i think my next car is going to be an suv too. i was thinking about getting a macan or cayenne as well, but i might just go with a range rover.

what are your pros/cons on the macan?

A lot of that has to do with ridiculous EU standards. They can't just make the cars as good as they can. They don't want to make turbo charged engines. They don't want to stick those stupid engine stop disable switches. They have to do a lot of stupid things they don't want to do. Hopefully, when the EU is gone in the near future, they can get back to making cars the right way.

I have had my Benz for 10+ years now...paid it off in the first 4. Repair costs really haven't been much but maybe that is coming.

Because of that I also have a Lexus.

I have a family though, if I was single I might be leasing some shit too IDK...kids are expensive af, fckin daycare $700 a month that's a new Benz itself lol

BMW repairs are expensive. For the most part, most expensive cars like BMW and Mercedes are going to cost a lot for maintenance. Not sure how true it is but my former boss drove a high end Jaguar and said maintaining it cost her a fortune.
