View Full Version : This year's ROY predictions...

I'm saying Emmanual Mudiay.

Nuggets have said they are going to let him start and encourage him to learn from mistakes. They're predicting him to be relatively inconsistent with play.

However, I have trouble watching Mudiay in Vegas and thinking he can be a 20+ ppg scorer at times (people think he might be able to be this type of player in 4 years). He is very athletic BUT his lack of explosion near the rim was evident. I'm not sure if he was holding back because it was preseason.

My predictions is he averages something along the lines of 12-15 pts/ 5 boards/ 5-6 assists on 40-42% fg, 25-30% 3pg, 65% ft.

If he was as explosive as Westbrook, I think he would be extremely scary of a player since he's a pass first PG on most possessions but can turn on his aggression in a split second and bull rush to the rim.

He was my favorite player in this draft and even though I wanted him on the Knicks, I think he's a perfect fit for Nuggets who have shooters and need a PG to pass to them. I don't think they go 0.500 this year but I think Mudiay makes a strong contention for ROY.

Are you saying WCS is a better defender than Marc Gasol, Kawhi Leonard, Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis?

I strongly disagree with that. Mudiay is really explosive, quick, fast. He's bigger than guys like Westbrook/Wall/Rose too. He's just not an elite leaper. When he explodes to the basket he isn't finishing with a mindblowing dunk like the others would. The 3 I mentioned are obviously better overall athletes and somebody like Wall is no doubt faster, Westbrook way more explosive but I think Mudiay is terms of explosion is in that next tier after them. Like elite, but not freakish elite.

Anyways give me Okafor. He'll be in a position to toss up numbers and he's already pretty polished offensively. I think it'll take time for him to adjust to the length of the NBA. He'll still put up points and as the season goes on I think his efficiency will improve. Something like 15/7 on poor shooting to start the season is what I'd expect.

WCS will play 10-15 mpg and be an occasional good defender mixed with an abysmal offensive player. He will then carve out a McGee like career, except not the same leaping ability.

WCS had issues guarding bigger guys in college how is he going to guard NBA bigs one on one? He's an elite shot blocker but that doesn't equal an elite post defender yet.

My bets on okafor or mudiay too.

2 for 17 from 3 and his NBA comparison was Steph Curry/James Harden.

Okafor is going to win this easily. I wouldn't be shocked one bit if he averages close to 20 ppg.

I overlooked two obvious but crucial attributes for a big that he possesses. Light feet and touch. Two rare traits for a big. And you add in his polished post game and feel for the game and the guy really has a lot going for him.

Very impressive prospect. Based on what I've seen of him, he's going to be a good one. Looks like he has a deadly mid-range and he's a fluid and coordinated big.

Stanley Johnson

okafor but this is a nice sleeper pick

hes gonna get a lot of open threes in SVG's system, if he can knock them down he'll put up nice all around numbers.

Stanley Johnson was my Dark Horse. I should have added that in the OP.

Mudiay is gonna get big minutes and probably post some big (inefficient) numbers.

Okafor is the safe pick because you know he'll put up points.

I'm gonna go Porzingus. If he takes his opportunities early, he will be right in it. It's not like anyone else should be taking his minutes if he shows his potential right away.
