2) CPA has modules now. There are no 4 tests. You do the PREP and then PEP programs over a 2 year span, simultaneously trying to get practical experience at accounting firms. At the end of the PEP program, you will write your evaluation case exam.
3) But good luck doing your "1st" of 4 exams.

No, he's going to start his own firm right away. :lol Which even under the old way when there were 4 tests (dude must be old like me to remember that) required you going to your 2 years of hell at an accounting firm right after.

There were 3 exams.

UFE, SOA & CKE.
That was before the merger.
Now CA, CGA & CMA are all under the CPA umbrella.
There are modules you have to do before writing the final exam.
If you don't need any PREP courses (you got your B.Acc with appropriate accredited hours) then you start the PEP program. 10-12 courses you will take over a 2 year span, and finishing off your academic portion with the final case written exam.

In the meantime, most people are working for an accounting firm.
Therefore once they pass the final exam, they also have the practical experience to be credited with a CPA designation.

H&R Block doesn't make a ton of money from doing taxes. They make most of their money by loaning out the tax returns to customers are crazy interest rates so that people have the cash they need ASAP. By the time they get their tax return and go to pay H&R Block they have to pay significant interest.
