View Full Version : TPP Deal Imminent
Has anyone been watching what's been going on in ATL???
Lot of opposition to this deal from the left, right, groups concerned with food safety, cheap labor, cost of drugs etc.
For a deal that is so secretive there has been quite a few leaks in the media. I don't understand the opposition before seeing more details seems like people think the end of the world is imminent once the deal is agreed to

Anybody ever wonder why the media doesn't bother to report one minute about the TPP? Instead all they talk about is gun contol, Putin, Trump, LGBTQUERQT rights, or whatever obscure topics people are talking about.
The fact that politicans or anyone for that matter has the ability to read the contents of this agreement is frightening. You also wonder how come no politicians besides Elizabeth Warren are actually demanding to see whats inside this agreement before voting on it? These idiot politicians blindly vote for the law because that's what they are told to do and that's how they get their donations.
Even more frightening is the fact that corporations will be seen to have tremendous authority and the ability to sue governments for laws they enact if it harms them doing business. Ex- If Vietnam raises wages then corporations can sue Vietnam because it harms them from doing business... And then people wonder why corporations are out of control..

The media doesn't report on this stuff for 3 reasons:
1. News about trade agreements isn't sexy, turns off viewers and causes ad rates to drop. News companies care about money before all else.
2. Viewers are turned off because most Americans are minimally-educated dolts who wouldn't understand the TPP anyway unless you broke it down into easily regurgitated soundbytes that could be used to suit the conservative/liberal agendas in the form of stupid Facebook memes.
3. The government and the people who own it (including the billionaires that own the media outlets) continue to force feed these stories about guns, religion, abortion and celebrities to keep Americans distracted and yelling at each other so we won't see how badly we're getting f*Cked by both parties. They need us believing that Obama wants our guns, Cheney wants our sons to die in the Middle East for oil and Bernie Sanders wants to give your money to lazy poor people who do nothing.

Wow. I just saw a brief mention of TPP on CNN and Foxnews. That's it. Nothing else. CNN goes to discussing about Trump's poll stats next. FoxNews goes to talk about floods in SC & hurricane that never hit USA :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm
Remember, CNN/Fox are both corporations. I guess thats why they won't discuss it in depth. I will look at PBS to see if they discuss it.

Anytime Congressional Republicans are giving Obama full authorization to do something, it's time to get suspicious as hell. Hopefully Warren and the Dems can kill this. I think we could swing a few Republicans like Rand Paul

there is no chance in hell
the wto and its allies learned way too much from seattle in 1999
they know what to protect and what to sacrifice for this agreement as a way to minimize popular dissent. technically that would be good politics were the agreement not so secretive and not so complicated by exceptions and exemptions. unfortunately neither of those are even remotely the case.
i mean our prime minister virtually gave up his seat to get this deal... he didn't give up the supply management but he opened up enough of a crack so that won't be an issue 10 years from now with foreign competition. which means every dairy farmer in his riding is going to be voting him out four years from now, assuming he doesn't leave beforehand on his own volition.

There's nothing to talk about right now. You can't discuss what you have no information on.
Now that the terms have been settled upon, the details will be released and it will be ratified in congress.
The coverage will be Iran Nuclear Deal 2.0.

hasn't this been in the works (and behind close doors too, mind you) for over 2 years now?

Yep, and they have been trying very hard to keep it in secret.
There was a news that TPP fell through months ago, only to be continued in secret til it reached. I think that was a big ruse as well.

wikileaks released a bunch of its sections at least a year ago iirc
the state dispute mechanism section, the pharmaceuticals section, and a few others... not that anybody had the opportunity to read any of it. and that isn't because nobody wanted to.
information can be readily available and completely inaccessible. that is not a contradiction.
