They might make the playoffs with him.

There may be something to this. Blazers made the playoffs with him the last couple of seasons, and now that he is gone, they are not expected to make it.

They might ?
They should very well win their division. Only the Celtics stand in their way.

I'm a known Knicks hater, and I have made bets (that I won) on the Knick's seasons before. I think they'll be a middle of the road team in the East next season. Aaron Afflalo is a good starting wing. Robin Lopez has an all-around high impact as a role player. He can finish, pass, and defend decently.
Jose Calderon may suck on D, but he's the best style of pg to play next to Melo on offense. Remember how great their offense looked with JKidd a few years back? Calderon has excellent (not JKidd level, but still) court vision, takes great care of the ball, and can space the floor at a high level.
If either Derrick Williams, Kristaps, or Cleanthony Early breaks out, they should have a decent 3/4 combo with Melo.
and Melo is still a stud.

Well, winning your division doesn't guarantee a playoff spot anymore...

True, but it's highly unlikely that a division winner doesn't make the playoffs.

Lopez definitely adds a lot to this team. But they have so much work to do. Melo hasn't lost a step, according to last night's performance. Lotta "if's", but if they keep it together they should be an above .500 team this season.
