Skill/ability is another thing all-together.

There aren't 100 players "better" than Kobe per se, but at this point, there are MORE than a few dozen with greater impact. Probably a lot more.

Just being honest.

That's obvious though. Kobe's no where near a Top 10 player in this league, but i'd argue if healthy he's like right outside that number.

Fact is, even old ass Timmy wasn't doing shit to better his Team last year, by himself.

It wasn't until Tony and Kawhi both got healthy again did they look like The spurs again.

But I bet Skip and some Duncan homers here or those same panelists would try to argue he's still their best player, it's simply because they like him more , Kobe's always been polarizing figure so it's easier to just tear down his name when he's playing on mediocre rosters , while his body fails him.

I feel you.

There's always been a double-standard with Kobe for whatever reason.

Like I said in another thread, he still has A LOT of game left. People scoff at this, but if you put Kobe on a contender, in any conference, he's immediately helping them on that end.

I see him averaging anywhere from 18-21ppg this season. Which is unbelievable for a guy in his 20th year.

i dont give a shit about rankings, not ESPN's, not ISH's. all i know is we should see a different Kobe this season. As long as russel stays healthy, we'll see kobe playing off the ball more than he ever has in his career. It's not going to be up to him to set up and offense (at least not entirely). so we'll all see just how effective he may or may not be this season, as a pure scorer for the lakers

I should have made an anticipatory thread to predict this exact reaction from him; it's that predictable. This has been a cyclic reaction from Stephen A. Smith ever since Kobe dropped out of the top-5-rankings, who is sensitive to how current rankings may sway perspective on a player's legacy.

Kobe just have to play like he did before he got injured and he should be able to help his team. I like the playmaker mode, like taking whatever the defense give him. And yeah I agree, Kobe always held highly regarded among his peers so there's always a double standard and that applies to all the great players. But as a Lakers fan, I can't complain and even though the Lakers have been mediocre in his last years, his era has been great. If DAngelo or whoever the next Laker superstar can do what he did or close to it then I'll be happy.

Kobe won't make it through the season, unless he takes a lot of games off. 93 seems too off, I could see him in the top 50. SAS is a tap dancing sell out. He's there to scream and make money for his white masters.

9-9 record, 42 win pace.

For Kobe 10-25, 23 win pace.

And Duncan was averaging 19/12/4 on 48% with DPOY-worthy defense (November-December is where he gained the most track in the DPOY race), with the hardest set of games in Spurs history (their December was by far their toughest month of basketball in decades, go look it up).

Apples and oranges, my friend. Duncan lead his team to a better record, with better production, against stiffer competition.

Duncan isn't a top 10 player, and Kobe is better than 93rd. But Duncan at this point is clearly on another tier, since he still plays great basketball (especially in the Playoffs) whereas Kobe doesn't.

Did Stephen A. just say that Bosh's numbers went up with Lebron? Bosh was 24/10 his final season in Toronto, and 18/8 his first season Miami, and slowly went down year over year during Lebrons tenure. And then, post Lebron he was back up to 21/7 before his season ending illness last year.

That's because he's been injured for the last three years , sweetie. Still playing 30-40 minutes a night while Duncan barley plays 12 maybe 15 min. Even before going down the Achilles injury , Kobe was dropping 27 5 and 5 on 46%

Superstar numbers compared to what Duncan was doing at the time.

The only reason Kobe isn't #1 is there's not gaurantee his old knees will hold up for the whole season. Based purely on skill and impact, Kobe is top of the NBA. Questions on his durability are the Based Mambas only weakness.

This. I believe he was 302 in the league in real plus minus. We can pick almost ANY relevant stat we want and he'd have come out as one of the worst players in the entire league.
So that loud thug is right. You can't find 92 better players. You can find 292 better players than Kobe right about now.

Kobe played 34.5 MPG last season (in 35 games).

In Duncan's first 35 games last season he played 31 MPG, and actually tried on defense.

Nice try, boy. Keep making stuff up to try and make this argument somewhat close. :lol

Not when you're actively not trying to play defense.

You ever heard of players taking a defensive position off to catch their wind? That was Kobe, just every single time.
