What's the better choice

I'm leanin' towards getting a cheap projector

Don't really need normal TV as I can just stream everything thru HDMI cable with Laptop

Get a huge ass picture

Would need to get some stereo shit though

I would say projector too. There are some really nice projectors out there that can project quality picture and as good as a television but those are very pricey. I don't know what you would consider cheap. You can mount it on you ceiling and adjust to the size you want.

Depending on price some will also produce a good picture and color with the lights on. If you get a cheap ass one, you may have to turn off the lights to watch. Projectors and screens are a hit and miss. It is up to you to find the perfect combo. It takes some trial and error to get the perfect combo.

The key to a good projector is the screen. You're not just buying one item. A good projector TV is a combination of screen and projector. Research the screen because some screen will produce better quality than others. You cannot just project to a wall because the clarity will suck.

In the end you may be spending a lot more than a regular television but I think its worth it because projectors emit towards a screen while a television is emitting at you. It will be better on the eyes in the long run.

I did research because I contemplated getting one myself but its costly. It's a rich man's game to dabble into this.

Sony 4k projector and probably on the high end side. Notice the clarity and the wall is probably outfitted with a special paint so you don't get glares or texture from paint.

Here's another....good luck because like audio equipment you just have to find the right combo.

Here's a real good combo. LG Hecto w/screen: $8,999

Check how much the bulbs for projector cost to replace and how many viewing hours you can get out of a single bulb. Often, they may cost $250-300 to replace every few years. Over the lifetime, it can add up fast.

LCDs can last for 10 or more years with 0 maintenance.. my old 42" LCD lasted 11 years, and it still works! Got much bigger 65" samsung lcd smart-tv now though.

While some bulbs are expensive but there are ones that are $60-$100.

It does take some maintenance but you are getting a nice clean picture without rays shooting at your eyes.

I made the mistake of getting a bigger TV than what the room can handle and with the lights off that TV is a killer on the eyes. I can feel the rays. Probably got a tan from it.

Projectors will not destroy your eyes.

I would say it depends on how much you want to use the projector?

- IMO you should only get a projector if you want to use it to watch the occasional Movie on the weekend or the occasional sporting event. ( and thus mostly use your laptop)

- If you watch a lot of TV/Sports/shows or watch alot of movies then bye all means invest in a nice TV ( remember....if you use a projector...the room has to be dark as possible in order to see the picture clearly.....if you have a room with lots of light....the image will be washed out or very light/harder to see)

- Projectors need a sizable room to get a really big picture ( the projector throw rating will tell you how far away the projector needs to be in order to produce the size image you want)

you will also need a home audio system....I.E. speakers/audio receiver/speaker wired or wireless

- you can project on a wall and get a good picture ....smoother the better.....but by all means using a projector screen is the best way to go in terms of quality.

I can post pics of my setup if you like.....( I have a 55 inch sharp LED TV.....and I also have a Projector setup with 10' automatic screen that rolls down in front of the TV)

watching Movies on a projector is awesome and makes it worth while.

the Bulb price depends on what type of projector you get...

I have the Optoma HD80
http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/optoma_hd80.jpg

- and replacement bulbs are 250$ - 300$

- again...it works out great if you only use your projector to watch movies/occasional sports

Depends. I remember being at a friend's house who had a projector but it was really bad quality although the setup looked really cool.

i'm currently using an epson LCD 1280x1024 projector that i got for around $600. i used to have an optoma, but those work by spinning color wheel, which tends to break eventually.

this sucker is bright as a mofo, even during the daytime. i just shine it on one of my apt walls and it looks great, no screen needed for me. it makes a sharp 14-foot diagonal image.

i don't have cable TV because i watch everything via net.

for my sound system i use a bose wireless speaker that uses the opposite wall to create a bass-sound board. the whole setup plus wireless keyboard and mouse is under $1000 and it's like living in a film theatre. (you could prolly get the equivalent used for half that much)

if i'm going out to host karaoke or something, everything fits in to a small backpack with plenty of room to spare. technology rocks.
