I don't even know what I'd do with 65 million dollars. Would probably take me 130 years to spend that much money.
Of course, I bet if I had that much money, plenty of opportunities to blow it would start to appear.

Reminds me of when an ugly guy gets a hot girl, but she sees more in him. She thinks he's nice or he is nice and that's what will make the relationship last. She also thinks he may have a big unit because he's ugly, and it's not fair nor possible that any ugly guy will also have a small unit. So, she finds out his unit is small...she thinks it can still work because he's nice. The kindness becomes nauseating because he's ugly and just afraid of losing her. If the kindness is a facade, he becomes the jealous type and can't handle her talking to any other man. Eventually, he may even slap her around because of her disobedience.
She learns the hard way that ugly men have nothing to offer other than temporary relief from the pain a good looking and successful man inflicted upon her.
Gilbert is a fraud. But I can't hate him for getting that money.

Would I trade lives with him? Of course :oldlol: But I would wanna be in the NBA though, it would hurt my feelings that nobody wants me

That's because you don't have the oppurtunity to be an NBA superstar. You also aren't looking at people less well off than you and thinking "damn. atleast I have food on the table every night and whenever I want". People only compare themselves to those who have what they want not to those who would kill to be where they themselves are.
I'm sure there are guys in the NBA who are unhappy because their careers aren't panning out to be what they would've desired. There are guys out there with that Kobe/MJ mentality who might just not have the talent to get to where they want to be and it must kill them inside.
Gilbert must think to himself that if a few things went his way his career and legacy could've been much better (might not be true but I'm sure he thinks that way). But at this point in his life he's probably mature enough to realize that what's done is done and he is at least financially secure.

However I don't see anything impressive about surviving on "only 65 million" over a few years.
I also think it is stupid and somewhat insulting for Gilbert to say he "earned" all that money he made off his last contract.
He shouldn't have said that.
That is like a lottery winner saying he "earned" his money.
Be honest and just say I got lucky as ****.
>hahaha I won the ****ing lottery

Nope. His name isn't Kobe.

I know that and Gilbert obviously did "earn" some of the money he made during his playing days.
However the majority off the money he will get especially from his last contract was not truly earned.

All NBA contracts are fully guaranteed for the most part. You don't "earn" your current contract. You either live up to your contract or not...what you "earn" is based on previous play combined with a realistic projection on your future.
If Gilbert had gotten healthy and returned to form....there is no reason he wouldn't have been a 25/5/5 type player for the duration of his contract.

He got his 111 mil contract after his injury but before the next season started so the answer is yes :facepalm
I think he played like 4 or 5 games at the end of the season after his injury and he averaged like 21 ppg and 10 apg during those 4 games lol so they thought he still had it (i could be wrong about his numbers im doing it off memory to lazy to google it)

Gilbert is so awesome. Everybody on this forum wishes they could have his wealth.
He should have put the $111 million in the stock market on 9/25 when the DOW dropped to 15666. He'd have made $10million (over 9%) in 6 weeks. When the market drops like it has recently, anyone with a lot of cash will make a killing.
Edit: Is this his current contract (so it's not cash) but weekly/biweekly (how are basketball players paid). Still, whatever liquid money he has - could have made 9% in 6 weeks.
Edit: This is what you get when you post after taking a nap. Arenas - retired - not current contract - was right the first time.

He retired at age 30 with 100 million, I mean if that's not winning in life then I don't know what is.
People can say he could have done more with his career, but people are always going to remember Hibachi. If you left a mark that people remember then that is still better than someone who played 15 years but has no lasting memory.

I see what you're saying.
But it's hard to be on top and then totally fall off prematurely. I think he'd like to have about 5 more years of all-star level play.
It's like if someone has a great life but dies at age 45. It's too early. We're not supposed to die that young. A basketball player's career isn't supposed to be over at 30.
Money is a small consolation, really. Once you have it your life changes, but you get used to it and bored of it.
I think if most NBA players had to choose between retiring at age 30 and playing for the minimum, they'd still play. If that was the rule or norm I mean.

Oden and Morrison were college studs that showed promise and got paid accordingly to their potential. If players don't perform to their potential they are either bought out (Anthony Bennett) or simply not given another contract (Adam Morrison).
That's the league, players are employed by billionaires and contracts are guaranteed.

Humility is having an accurate opinion of where you stand in the world. Knowing the truth about yourself. Gilbert Arenas has a lot of money, does he not? So he wipes his a** with it... What about that is not humble?
95% joking.
gilbert could build a 100 foot golden statue of himself in the middle of time square and live in there and i would still regard him as a class act

What exactly makes him a class act?
He refuses to pay poker debts, sells illegal fireworks and brings guns to work.

Money has absolutely NOTHING to do with winning in life.
Hmm ok. How about this. Beyond being rich, he also got live his childhood dream of playing in the NBA, overcame tremendous odds as a 2nd round pick to at one point being a top 10 player in the league, and donated tons of money to charity.
Do people realize that Gilbert had a program where he donated $100 to DC schools for every point he scored at home games? He did shit during seasons where he was averaging 28-30ppg. Or that he took care of a kid whose family died in a fire and paid for his college?
He's an idiot perhaps, but he's done a LOT of good in his life . His charitable/community work in DC was huge.

So much salt in this thread. Be envious of a man who retired at 30 as a multi-millionaire.
He doesn't owe anyone anything.

I dare say there is nothing I can say here to convince you.
But I hope that sooner rather than later you receive the epiphany that the giving and receiving of love, integrity, family, friends and peace of mind are much more valuable than millions of dollars.
