Are you saying that DeAndre Jordan is better at protecting the rim than either of those guys?
Because they all have similar reps.

Who's a great rim protector nowadays? I understand Mutumbo or Zo ain't around anymore. But current NBA, who? Dwight?

No, your question was who is more overrated. Those two come close to say the least. All three are the same; they are shot blockers, who get overrated real quick, because people like players swatting the ball into the stands - which has almost no value. Whereas someone like Gobert actually protects the rim and stops the opposition from scoring.
For instance, and I love AD, people compare Davis to Garnett, which is a somewhat fair comparison. They both have the same frame, length, etc, etc. But AD isn't anywhere close to Garnett on the defensive end just yet.

Serge Ibaka.
How so? He gets more blocks per game with a much better opponent at rim %.
Even when Ibaka had his crazy season of 4 blocks a game, it wasn't like he was just giving up a ton of baskets just to get a high volume of blocks. His at rim % was still much greater than what DeAndre does, who is below average in that regard.
You can see it in the playoffs, Jordan is nowhere near the rim protector that the media hypes him up as. Guys just go at him because they know this. He even got posterized by Thabo fvcking Sefolosha a few years back.

This is just one example. A lot of times DeAndre will just straight up move out of the way though rather than even contest the shot. He does this far more than any of the true elite rim protectors in the league who are way less scared of getting dunked on.

I don't think people compare AD to Garnett for his defense as if to say that he's already on that level, but rather they do it out of amazement that AD is already averaging 24/10 (Garnett esque) at such a young age

deandre jordan is more than just a rim protector...watch how he plays screen and rolls.......dude has guard like quickness....can literally set a screen at the top of the key and roll to the basket while blowing by his man. on defense he can also hedge up close and recover if the guy setting screen rolls to the basket and doesnt require help from griffin or weak side. stats only tell half the story

There aren't many quality rim protectors in the current NBA like in the past. The few rim protectors of today can't be compared to others from the past. So Jordan would not be overrated in this era.

anyone calling ibaka an overrated rim protector is dumb. he's the best rim protector in the nba and the stats show it.

Deandre was a ****ing bum and an afterthought at first until Blake Griffin was drafted.

I remember people in this very forum constantly saying Deandre Jordan sucked ass in his very early years with the Clippers before Blake came to the team.

That's why Deandre decided to stay in LA, because players like CP3 and Blake maximizes his strengths, and hides his weaknesses as an overall player. Deandre wouldv'e probably been exposed as an athletic version Samuel Dalembert if he woulda signed with Dallas.:oldlol:

Stats won't tell you that having a rim protector like Jordan can make every Clippers player play agressive defense especially on the perimeter.
