Ever since I saw him at Texas, I've always thought Kevin Durant is like a weird mix of Dirk and Tracy Mcgrady. There hasn't really been a guy like him in our league.

6'10 fluid as Mcgrady. Stronger than he appears. Moves off screens and has so many counter moves like Dirk.

I know some hate comparisons but I believe on talent, KD is Mcgrady meets Dirk.

Not as quick nor does he have the handles of McGrady. More consistent shooter though, so it evens out.

Durant does not have a quick first step like Mcgrady.

He's the best 6'10" playmaker/passer of all time

Plus the best scorer in history

Still got 10 prime years left

Guaranteed top 5 GOAT

Kudos on finding that link. I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees Mcgrady meets Dirk!

They both have the long strides when driving. Handles I agree because Mcgrady had a sick handle for 6'8.

Durant was one of the few players that started to adopt to Dirk's fallaways and leaners.

Nope bad comparison. Durant never had close to Mcgrady elite athleticism or God like first step along with crazy quickness. Durant has shooting and length over Mcgrady but that's about it.

Yeah, 50% Nowitzki, 50% Mcgrady

I've always said he's a mixture of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Bill Russell.

But that's factoring in intangible stuff. His leadership is up there with Russells, his toughness, trash-talking, competitive fire, clutch-ness, shooting ability... a lot like Larry, and seeing him handle the ball like he did in 2014 while basically play point guard for OKC, with the added flash and charisma, reminded me of Magic.

Durant's gonna play forever. He put up legendary numbers on a broken foot, which just proves athleticism isn't what makes him elite. Sure, it puts him over the top, but he will still be elite when it fades. Durant is the type of guy to get better in different areas as the years go on, and adapt to whatever the league throws at him. He'll always be at the top. I could see him playing elite till ages 40-45.

Durant's his own beast. Better overall shooter than Tmac with 2 inches more height. Not as athletic or as fluid, though. Speaking of which, I'd love to see 2003 Tmac in today's league.

Sounds about right. Somewhere between a Championship and the first round.

I agree! Durant is flat out one of the greatest shooters of all time! And peak T Mac was flat out a freak athlete! T Mac's scoring skillset was more similar to guys like MJ, Kobe, and Gervin. Those guys were great at slashing, midrange, and postups. As basketball evolved, the more those style of scorers used the three ball as a weapon.

That's why Kobe and T Mac used the three ball more often than MJ and Ice. But scoring wise, I view T Mac more like Kobe, Gervin, and MJ. Durant is a pure shooter-scorer type like a Dirk, Bird, Ray Allen, Miller, etc. But Durant has evolved that style of scorer due to his great slashing ability and handles. Due to body type (not height) and smoothness, I see some similarities. But it's not a very close kind of comparison like MJ-Kobe or King-Melo .

I said some time ago I wonder when or if we'll ever see a 6'11-7'00 shooting guard. Durant's a listed SF, but he's probably the closest we've seen to that.

I agree! His combo of shooting ability and handles for players his height is UNMATCHED in the annuals of NBA history. And while KD isn't a freakish athlete, he's still a very athletic slasher to the rack. In many ways, he reminds me of a much taller Ray Allen.
