They need to start thinking for themselves and stop stealing patents, stop making counterfeit shit, make quality goods, stop polluting the environment. There's a reason why we dont import much of china's goods here... it's total shit.

their politics is still bullshit. but so is ours.

their economy, despite their recent downturn, overall has been a growth-model success for the last two decades.

socially, they haven't caught up yet, but they were still farming in rural areas 30 years ago. it's going to take a while to remove that "every man for himself" villager mentality. they still dont give a f about many things that we were brought up to give a f about.

I think the Chinese govt has a really tricky tightrope to walk now that they are trying to transition to a more traditional developed country. The protections they provide to their economy are going to be hard to remove effectively.

Their economy is predominantly built on exporting goods made by the poor, disadvantaged, exploited workforce of which children make up the percentage. They also don't/ can't invent anything.

Politically they're closer to North Korea than they are a western democracy and they seem to be absolutely fine with an elite pulling all the strings.

Socially I have no idea, but based on what I just said it's probably a sheltered existence with little prospects to better oneself unless you're from a wealthy background.

They are the next super power. Every one seems content to sacrifice their lives in the name of the greater good.

We are phucked once China becomes the super power as the value of human lives will be drastically lowered. Hopefully India becomes the next #1 instead of China, they are slightly nicer and have a friendlier culture and better building code regulations.

Laugh all you want breh. I hope they implode again, for the sake of the world (RIP the chinese people who will suffer for it) but I don't think it's going to happen. One of these days China will figure it's shit out and get its act together. And on that day, we will all be ****ed.

I think a lot of the common opinions in regards to China are still filtered through a thick lens of anti-commie propaganda. Media still seems to strongly portray China as this evil place, because that is what the people want to hear, those are the stories that sell. Chinese society is viewed as cold, exploitative and heartless. I mean in this thread you see people comparing China to North Korea and making blanket statements about how they need to stop polluting, there is really no beginning to correcting those kind of statements by people who have completely drank the western koolaid on China.

It's all very much a caricature and not very realistic or rational. Life in China is pretty harsh on a big part of the population, but not more or less so than any other place that is not the first world. Very stressful and competitive, but it's also possible to do well for yourself and there is room for hope, there has been a lot of progress over the past 30 years. It's impossible to tell if they really will manage to catch up, but it's a powerful country just by scale alone.

This. Anti-China propaganda always ramps up during elections. It's hard to take it seriously. It would also be good if people in this thread stated if they have been to China and for how long before they make such blanket statements.

I have friends who have been to China and lived there breh. It is as backwards as backwards can be.

And as a former architecture school drop out, I learned enough about Chinese building code regulations to know that their government does not put any value on human life. They build entire cities and skyscrapers and hotels in a short amount of time that are liable to collapse at any moment. That escalator collapsing on that woman video that went viral a few months ago is hardly a fluke event.

**** ChinaFunny thing is, i've gone back a few times like in 2009. Used FB, Google, and youtube fine cept for certain obvious red flag searches like Tienanmen Square. The city I lived in, Guangzhou, was really nice and there was a lot of stuff to do and places to go. Not to mention the food was always awesome. Could also take taxis, buses to almost anywhere you wanted like the ocean and the historical landmarks. I played basketball a lot, although there was always that sewer smell at night :lol Wish I knew Mandarin before I went back, my Cantonese is pretty iffy. I do wanna see the fam on my mom's side again, cuz U.S. is much more boring for me rite now

Shame, I figured someone like you who lived in Egypt could appreciate how much nicer a place to live China is compared to the average country in the world. Even if you haven't been there yourself.
Sure, compared to the UK or the USA it's not so nice, but compared to the average country? It's all demonization.

They are not as far along as rich countries, but they are fine. They've moved 400 million poor, peasant farmers to the city in the last 20 years, who are living comparatively better lives with much better hope for the future. Especially of their family. That requires a lot of construction that cannot be regulated well, and the vast majority of it functions just fine.

I doubt that China is any better than the hell hole Egypt. Nicer weather, but I have no doubt it's dirtier and more corrupt.

The Chinese government does not give a shit about its own citizens. They allow buildings to go up that can collapse at a moments notice. They allow their citizens to work their entire lives as slaves in sweatshops on a massive scale that eclipses anywhere else in the world. They genocide all ethnic groups that they dislike. Call it demonization if you want to but I'm just being real.

There is nothing stopping the government from creating basic regulation codes so that these cowboy builders don't create housing developments that collapse for no reason, leading to the death of hundreds.

It is not difficult to instill and regulate proper building codes. Every other country in the world can do it. Why can't China?

I think they have some serious problems with population overload in most of their main cities.

Some of their highways are 50 cars wide

And that pollution...

I kind of get this hunch they have one eye on relocating some of their population in some type of takeover of an island or country...

They have been doing some suspicious shit over the last few years...Then you have the China/Japanese dispute over claim of islands in the region...

They are desperate to claim Taiwan for their own and are constantly sneaking in Chinese loyalist voters to screw with their elections, as well as doing other sneaky maneuvers to slowly but surely gain control of Taiwan again.

They have prepared for this situation.

They have entire cities untouched, ready to go if needed.

Still, those cities won't cater to all of them..
