If you want to see an insanely tough guy beating all odds you watch Berserk. Fist of the North Star was alright for it's day but I can't watch it now. The plots and dialogue are both too simple and repetitive for me to get into. The way that he hits some random spot on an opponent and then the bad guy's head explodes is ridiculous.

I'd consider Legend of the Galactic Heroes a manly anime, though for different reasons then FotNS and Berserk.

If you want to see an insanely tough guy beating all odds you watch Berserk. Fist of the North Star was alright for it's day but I can't watch it now. The plots and dialogue are both too simple and repetitive for me to get into. The way that he hits some random spot on an opponent and then the bad guy's head explodes is ridiculous.
i agree with you to a point, but that last bit is part of the crazy charm of "fist." basically a nod to extreme kungfu and fraudster assholes like george dillman.

I never considered viewing it as satire. I don't know if that could help me view it but it's at least an excuse.

2 seasons. 152 episodes total. I've seen them all. They made a movie which I heard is just a condensed version of the series or parts of the series.

cool, TY. okay, i see the WP page now and it makes sense that it started as a manga. the usual deal, right?

OTOH i'm gonna side with greenie on this-- like, this is not involved, fascinating stuff like akira or pretty much any tezuka novel or what have you.

no, it's a dumbass, post-apocalyptic, he-man concept featuring lots of face-palming action that is best served quickly and efficiently...... hence a movie.
