So people can study and research forests and the ecosystem and work to try to keep things clean and learn things about the world they live in?:confusedshrug:

Seems like a pretty important, and also underrated degree.

Do any of you guys have this degree?

No, but it's probably a degree that leads to a much bigger salary than you'd first assume. There's nothing wrong with being a scientist and studying the environment. Forests are important to humanity and it's good that we have people working to sustain them and keep them healthy.

Become a college professor for Forestry/Ecology :lol

Which is the easiest highest paying job IMO

Pretty useless unless you want to educate the world on preservation.

Don't expect to get paid much.

i know couple guys from that field trough my brother

those are highly paid engineers

one, for example, is Master in 'Ecology and Evolution' from ETH Zurich, an other one finished in 'Experimental Ecology' - there's a demand for those people

EDIT: same for the specific 'Forest Ecology', although i don't know anyone personally

ya'll probably thinking of hippy tree huggers LOL

It could be useful. In the likelihood that you are on a space mission and abandoned on a lifeless world, you can try to grow a forest to keep yourself alive. I saw it happen last weekend.

The forests and ecosystems are vital to human survival. The U.K government is considering re-introducing Wolves into the highlands ecosystem as much of the land is being destroyed by the over population of Deer.

Personally I think it would be a great degree and career to have.

Paying bills and feeding your family.

Paying bills and feeding your family.

thats exactly my point. individual priorities of a human does not and never will supersede that of the earth.

How many trees do you hug per day? Why aren't you as adamant in saving aborted baby fetuses as you are about tree conservation??

There are way too many subjects that people are paying tuition to study these days, but I would actually contend that forestry/ecology is not one of them. There's too much specific information to be learned than would not be practical to learn on one's own. It's an academic field and is probably best studied in academia.

Also as a pro-environmentalist, I appreciate that there are those who study it as a career choice, even if I don't generally identify with that crowd on much else.

Forestry is an ancient science, it is good there are still people out there keeping it alive.

Paying bills and feeding your family.

Chances are that you're family will also have a family so ensuring a healthy and sustainable future for the Earth is probably important. Especially if your grandkids want to feed their future family.
