because when his fans talk about how big he is and how he can play center. i bring up the fact that he only averages 7 rebounds and 6 per game last season.. which is horrific for a guy his size, weight, length with his athleticism

If Lebron really was that heavy, there must have been plenty of 300+ pound guys in the NBA, because there were many that were bigger than Bron.

Shaq, obviously, but Shaq's always been listed over 300lbs

But guys like Anthony Mason, Charles Oakley, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Larry Johnson, Otis Thorpe--at most, they were listed around 265lbs. All of them were bigger than Lebron.

Barkley was a lot shorter. Barkley was one of the most freak athletes of all time, make no mistake. He was also very lazy when it came to maintaining a non-round physique. His natural athleticism, power, explosion, etc was utterly insane considering he wasn't even playing at his most optimal form.

A Cavs reporter claimed he saw him on the scale and he was 274. That was 2009. He was 240 pre draft and 251 in the Olympics that summer. Gaining 20 pounds after 5 yards of weight training isn't the least bit shocking.

Just all media hyperbole for the next big star.
He would have been about 230 in his rookie season peaking at around 250 as career went on.
Andre Drummond weighs about 270-275 pounds and he is significantly bigger than James.
Guys like David West and Tyler Hansbrough are 245-255 and are arguably bigger, definitely not smaller.
Karl Malone was about 250-260 and he was bigger than James.
In summary that Cavs reporter is full of doodoo.

Why am I to trust your opinion more than the predraft combine saying he was 245 and the olympics....the...olympics...saying he was 114kg...or 251 pounds and change?

Its more likely a lot of these guys were just bigger than listed than it is Lebron was 250 at most.

He was 245 at 18. People put on a few pounds lifting weights for 5-10 years...

Ive seen normal people gain 20 pounds weight training for a couple years....at a normal human height. Ever be around someone who has to make weight? Fighter...military...whatever. I have. You can gain or lose 5-10 pounds quicker than you would imagine.

Lebron gaining 20 pounds from growing into adulthood and lifting weights isnt hard to buy. He was literally a kid...and 245.

Just dont look at him as a swingman and its not hard to imagine. Hes a 4...he just dribbles.

And swingmen are his size at times anyway. Ryan Gomes was 248 at the combine. He was probably 260 at some points. Ron Artest said he was what? 275?

Swingmen get up there. Guys bigger than them just dont have their weights updated.

Karl Malone is at 256 pounds right now, which was his playing weight, straight out of the horses mouth.
That's not knowing it all. That's just listening to someone telling the truth.
The weights are inflated so the masses can worship their heroes.
Lebron James is not bigger than Karl Malone. He is not heavier.
He is not close to the same weight as Drummond, who is 275 pounds.

Lebron James as a rookie was listed 245 pounds. That's where the Nike/NBA hero persuasion began.
Reality was he was a 6'8 small forward who weighed 230. He did not weigh the same as prime David West.

NBA players are simply not as big as they are portrayed. It's all part of the marketing.
I am genuinely 6'6 and 240 pounds today in my 30's. When I played I was 6'6 220 pounds. I played against many Australians who competed internationally and the NBA. They are routinely listed 2 inches and 15-20 pounds heavier than the reality when they go to the NBA.

As I said you can gain and lose weight. there have been stories on him attempting to get lighter for whatever reason he felt that necessary. people were on here around then saying he had lost the ability to overpower people because of it.

he was listed as 251 11 years ago in the Olympics and he was said to be 254 later that summer. you thinking he was 230 after he was weighed in at 245 just doesn't factor in.

you think someone like Ryan Gomes get weighed at the combine and they just write down a fictitious number in front of everyone? Have you ever watch the combine footage? The people walking around in socks and all that with them discussing such things the first day of it in the summer? They aren't pulling numbers out of thin air. you pretty much are what your combine says. You can go up or down from there but they don't ask you what you weigh. You step on a scale.

have you not seen some of the rookie stories they do now with guys trying to be a certain weight to prove they were not out of shape or to prove they had put on muscle before the official weigh ins?

you can opt out of a lot of the testing but they measure you in socks and then shoes and get your weight and wingspan.

where you go from there up or down is whatever.

While it's the subject....

www.businessinsider.com/experts-lebron-james-diet-2014-9

dude seems to fluctuate wildly. why he would think something like that is necessary is beyond me.

maybe he has bad offseason habits or something and takes it far the other way getting ready for the season but that seems pretty extreme.

He was at his worst when during his first year with the Heat.

Way too much muscle (at least 10-15 lbs) and couldn't blow by defenders consistently. Less lift and couldn't get to the rim. The Mavs used this as an advantage defensively in the 2011 Finals because of it.

There's a big difference between someone training with the explicit purpose of gaining weight and then an athlete doing intense and year round cardio. That is the obvious sign of roiding in this league, that these players walk around looking like massive bodybuilders while running many miles every day.

Look at the 60-80s players, even the very strong and chiseled ones have a much slimmer physique. The same is true for track athletes who also looked much slimmer before the 90s.

There is simply no doubt that Lebron and most of his peers in the NBA use strong doses of muscle building drugs.

People in this thread comparing Lebron to other players(Malone, West, Hansbrough) and guessing weights are mostly looking just at the upper body....while Lebron's upper body is impressive, that's not where most of his ''muscle weight'' comes from. He has massive legs, tree truncks literally and that's what separates him from other players. Howard for example has chicken legs. And as we know leg muscles are the biggest muscles in the body thus carrying the most weight.
