Likely MJ (88-92).
I don't know where he would fall on a GOAT list or how many guys would be ahead of him for the sake of this exercise, but the Admiral is kind of tailor made for this era. Dude was terrific at covering the pick and roll and switching onto a variety of players, in addition to his awesome rim protection. Could run the floor, and would be awesome playing an Anthony Davis type of offensive game if you give him a good guard and surround him with some shooters.
Problem is, you're only getting four years out of him since he doesn't have a period of 5 consecutive years (thumb in 91-92, and the foot in 96-97, though maybe in the case of the latter he was held out longer because of the tank...still, foot injuries are no joke).

Lebron
Assuming the rest of the team is average, he'll be able to make the most out of the least

MJ of course, but Magic would MURDER this era without hand check.

larry bird is the best of the goats at fitting in no matter the lineup around him... so i choose him
most versatile player of all time, not in doing all kinds of different things well (even though he did that too) but in fitting into any scheme or system, whatever x's and o's the coach wants, whatever dynamic is going on in the lockerroom, we know larry bird will do no harm

Shaq for sure. Without a cancerous chucker as his second option, he'd win them all.

In this league, Shaq. Not a single big in this league could stop him.
Edit: I'll toss on Bird too, for a lot of the reasons you guys have mentioned.

I would make him come out and exploit the first gay sports superstar.

Kevin Durant is a true shining light in the state of Oklahoma. Can't wait until him and my son join forces.
