He was only 14 when he was in Apocalypse Now but he pulled it off. He was only 30 in Boyz n the Hood but was playing 40+ and was even Cuba Gooding Jr's father (CGJ was like 23 at the time lol). In Higher Learning he was only 34, still a very young guy, and he was playing a middle-aged grizzled old-fart professor. Even in The Matrix he was only 38 but was playing much older.

Just an observation. He should try playing a younger character just for a goof.

Happens all the time in the film industry. Plenty of 30 year olds are running around playing teenagers. Rebel Wilson just had a controversy because it was revealed she had been lying about her age for years, she's a good deal older than she has been claiming. But that's nothing out of the ordinary.

A 38 year-old Morpheus seemed plausible

30 year olds playing high schoolers is common, but what OP is talking about is the opposite.

Right.

It seems like its standard in Hollywood to use 25 year olds to play teenagers and 35 year olds to play 20-somethings.

Not really, plenty of actors play older.

Marlon Brando was only 46-47 when he played Don Corleone and was just about 15 years older than both James Caan and Al Pacino.

Estelle Getty played Bea Arthur's mother for years on the Golden Girls despite being one year younger than her TV daughter.

And of course with makeup, plenty of actors play much older characters routinely.

Actors rarely play their actual ages. It goes both ways- older or younger than they actually are.

EDIT- Kate Winslett is a perfect example. She played younger in Titanic but most of her future roles had her playing characters that were older than she was (The Reader and Jude being prime examples).

He looked out of place portraying Senior in college in School Daze.

Bill Cosby is only 10 years younger than the actor who played his dad (Grandpa Huxtable) in The Cosby Show

The actor who played J. J. is only 7 years younger than the guy who played his mean ass father in Good Times.

Ice Cube is younger than Morris Chestnut even the he played Morris' older brother in Boyz in the Hood

He Got Game: Hill Harper (the cousin/high school teammate) is 10 years older than Ray Allen (Shuttlesworth)

Not in "King of New York" with Walken and Snipes

It's also his best piece of work IMO, and I'm a big fan

Deep Cover is another underrated gem from around the same time.

This could evolve into a Laurence Fishburne appreciation thread.
