View Full Version : Because there are no fours: 5 or more 3PA/G but 30% or less on 3s
Which 5 players have done it?
Hint: Don't be fooled by my title.
Edit: And were qualified for 3PT% leaderboard.
Edit 2: Derrick Rose seems to have done it, IDK why b-ref doesn't include him in the criteria I used, since he seems to match it...

Sorry guys, I was wrong, 5 guys have actually done it. Payton was one, as young x guessed, so 4 more.

White Chocolate. Dude took more horrible 3's than Mr. Shimmy.

Yes. Fun fact: he is the only player to do it twice

Nope.

Payton with more than 5 3pa/g? What was he thinking?
Is anyone active?

J-Craw, AI, Kobe, and Mo. All of them are high volume 3pt spammers and all of them have had terrible shooting seasons from the 3. One of these guys definitely did it.
No, none of those Fallen Angel.
And no one is active.

Mo who? Williams? He's a great 3PT shooter :confusedshrug:
And no, none of those guys, believe it or not. Kobe did average 29.3% on 5.3 3PA/G last year, but he didn't qualify for the 3PT% leaderboard (only 35 games played)

I remember Mo shooting like shit after LeBron left. Dude had his 2 best seasons, shooting wise and in general, with LeBron.

Bruce Bowen?
Here's a hint: all of the remaining players did this in the 1990's.
Sorry for not including it in the OP!

I didn't think it was fair to include players who didn't qualify for the 3PT% leaderboard. :confusedshrug:

Did Rio do it last season? Not sure how many 3's he took, but his jumper was broke AF.

Yep.
Aj, no Rio didn't do it, although he did shoot below 30% IIRC.
Hint: The final guy was an All-Star and averaged over 25 PPG, but not in the same season.

shaq magic bran
Update: B-Ball reference appears to have made an error, because Derrick Rose accomplished this "feat" last year, and definitely qualified for the 3PT% leaderboard.
shaq magic bran
Shaq didn't take 3s, Magic didn't take many, and when he did he was competent, and LeBron is a pretty decent 3PT shooter.
Shaq. wtf :biggums:

Jerry Stackhouse would be my guess, but I think he peaked higher than 25ppg.
Could be Sprewell but I can't believe he'd be up at 5 3s a game.
No, none of those guys AFAIK. I'm kinda suspicious of B-Ref's definition of "qualifying for the 3PT% leaderboard" now though so take this with a grain of salt.
Final hint: not only did this guy shoot below 30% on 3s, he took over 8 a game!
Spree averaged 5+ 3PA/G twice, but acquitted himself fairly well both times.

I just learned that Michael Jordan has never taken more than 3.6 3pas a game for a season. His career average is 1.7. In Washington he took about 0.8. Let that be a lesson to the younguns...

Tell us before you go at least. I'm curious and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to find it.... not an expert on 90s stuff.
8 3pa's, though... that's crazy. I can't think who it is, but that's huge.

Not taking them in Washington didn't help his efficiency. granted he was a grandpa by then and its impressive he was still productive

Adams played on that Denver Nuggets team under Westhead that gave up an insane amount of points per game and played the "No defense, run-n-gun, f**k all" brand of basketball.
But still, 8.5 3s per game at less than 30% is absurd.

WB is a choker, but he does show restraint. I had to look it up, but the dude averaged only 4.3 3's a game last season. He took fewer 3's than LeBron WITH KD being injured.
