I'll break it down and hope I can enlist some of you guys stat skills.

It is commonly believed now that the 3 pointer is more efficient than the mid/long 2 shoot.

I believe there may be some flaws in this dogma.

The point is, when these stat nerds began calculating shit, they looked at stats from a few years back, which was in the early 00s when skill level was at an all time low.

If you go back watch games from 80s and 90s (in particular), then you will see that the open/semi-open 2 point is VERY efficient. This is a shot that 1-4 will hit almost every time with automatic accuracy. You are open, you hit the 2 ball. Then around late 90s to early 00s, low skill players begin bricking open 2s due to lack of skill.

I believe this has skewed the efficiency stats.

Does anyone have FG% on long and medium open 2s from the 90s?

I don't think they're basing it on skill level. It's based on points per shot or whatever. But I do get what you're saying. 3 point shot itself isn't an efficient shot for everyone. If you can't make it you shouldn't take it.

3's are more efficient than 2's

its easier for a player to average 33% threes than 50% fg's

both equal out to the same amount of points
