Because my parents were cheap ass immigrant Asians who bought me what ever the cheapest shoes were at the time, lol. I actually wore LA Gear Flames as both my ball shoes and casual shoes. I didn't know about signature shoes until Converse Weapons and Jordans. My first signature player shoes were the Tim Hardaway Air Raids I bought with birthday money and those I also wore as both casual and basketball.
I guess that's why I developed an obsession with shoes now, is because I grew up semi poor. But at the time, shoes weren't a big concern that kids in my neighborhood could afford to buy signature top end shoes.
