So I'm buying my first car and I have just around 1,500-2000 to spend, I know that's a little but I really need a car right now so I can't wait till I save up more. Anyways my buddy could sell me a 2001 Honda Civic LX 180,000 miles for 1500. Or I could buy an old luxury car for example Lexus ES 300 and Acura's I really like those, what do you guys think I should do

Dont a luxury car, especially an old one, if you can't afford the maintenance.

Its not like you can open the hood of a BMW and start fixing things. It requires taking it to a special dealership.

I would suggest saving up more, but, if you absolutely have to have a car now, the Civic is the wise choice.

Get it checked out first though, 180k miles on a car well maintained is no big deal. 180k miles on a car that was treated like shit is a death trap/money pit.

A Honda Civic is going to much more affordable for you and if you need to repair something major, like your side door gets crunched, you are much more likely to find 2001 Honda Civic parts at a junkyard.

What's up with wanting luxury at under 3k? Go Honda and don't look back. Start off small. Nothing to be ashamed of. Take care of what needs to be taken cared of first. Fix it up. Should be good to go to put on 20k more miles then by then you should upgrade to another car.

I'm no expert but I remember seeing some BMW in Philly being sold. It was a 2002 3 series I believe dark blue. Pretty decent shape (about 60K miles on it), I think the owner said it had a few small dents/scratches. He was only asking for like $2500 because he desperately needed money at the time. It sold so quickly. I heard the guy got like 30+ PMs within minutes.

Go w the honda bro

Those things are so easy to work on it will last you a while until you are able to get something you actually want, which sounds like some sort of luxury car.

the civic is decent as long as its in decent condition. with 180,000 miles, the o2 sensors, the catalytic converter, the alternator, the starter, the battery twice, the spark plugs and the accessory belt should have been replaced, if not, thats something youll need to think about doing or having done yourself. do not buy any kind of luxury vehicle with your budget. i repeat, do not buy any type of luxury car with your budget.

Lexus is the same way. My brother has a BMW and bitches non-stop.

He had a window motor die, and had to get it replaced, and while the part itself was $50, the labor (by taking it to a special dealership) ended up costing him almost $800.

And since you are looking at cars for less than a month's salary, I'd say stay away from anything BUT Honda and Toyota.

Honda and Toyota are beautiful cars in their respective nature. Their built to last and of course there are a few things necessary to be changed, your headache won't be as big as the next man driving a luxury.

Don't buy a money pit when you can barely afford the car to begin with. Get a Honda or Toyota for reliability and cost of repair. Ford has gotten better the last decade as well in terms of quality if you go with something American-made. I have a 2007 Ford Fusion SE AWD and love it.

You don't need to buy a luxary car to have a nice looking car that you like taking care of IMO.

Cause he's 17.

He hasn't realized perception isnt reality.

My brother had the same exact car as me. Same year, model, color, everything. Bought it a year after I got mine. Then he went and traded it in for his used BMW. Now his insurance is more than my car payment.

He's underwater on his loan, so he can't get rid of it. He's totally ****ed.

I was the same way. My first car was a 1997 Audi A6 Quattro. And while it was good car until it started breaking down about 9 years after I bought it, the cost to repair far outweighed having a nice looking car. My Ford Fusion personally for me is just as nice looking as the Audi, you just don't have all the bells and whistles...which in the end is good too because once one of those bells and whistles break you need to fix that too.

I've purchased many cars for under 2k including a jaguar xj6, Mercedes 190e, cadillac El dorado, 2 Toyota camrys and a Honda accord. (All late 80s or early-mid 90s models)

The most practical is the camry or accord because they are dependable, will run forever, are cheap and easy to work on your self, and they get good gas milage.

Thanks for the feedback guys! , I spent all my money on vacation last summer and got 2k in like month and a half and i really need a car being that im in college (18) and asking for rides whenever I wanna hang out with friends is annoying plus with a car id get more hours at work. Anyways by "luxury" I kinda meant only Lexus lol , idk what it is but Lexus' are so damn fine to me. Ill probably get the civic , and buy some stuff for it like leather interior covers, monitor/gps i wish i had a sunroof but its alright ,

Old lexus cars do look better than any other older luxury car. You can customize it and shit like that drop it lower etc. It'll be nice for your age group but 21-25+ you really wouldn't want to be looked at with that car
