Lionsgate's 'Power Rangers' Movie Casts Chinese Actor Ludi Lin as Black Ranger

The cast is beginning to assemble, with just a few spandex suits still to be filled.

Lionsgate has recruited Chinese actor Ludi Lin to morph into the Black Ranger for the studio's forthcoming Power Rangers movie.

The reboot of the iconic 1990s TV series will be directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and is due out in January 2017. The announcement was made via the Power Rangers movie's official Instagram account.

Lin was born in China but grew up in Australia and Canada before returning to Asia to pursue a career as an actor. Although somewhat new to the industry, he appears poised to break out. Earlier this year, Lin had a small role in Monster Hunt, China's highest-grossing film ever, followed by a cameo in comedy blockbuster Lost in Hong Kong. He can next be seen in season two of Netflix period series Marco Polo.

The Power Rangers cast is beginning to assemble. The Martian's Naomi Scott was previously announced as the Pink Ranger, and Australian actress Dacre Montgomery is set to play the Red Ranger.

Power Rangers follows the adventures of a group of high-school kids who are granted unique superpowers by an alien force, which they collectively harness to save the world. The hit '90s TV series, on which the film is based, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, was itself based on source material from a Japanese kids series called Super Sentai, produced by Toei.

The Power Rangers script was written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, the screenwriting team behind X-Men: First Class.

Lin is managed by Andrew Ooi and Joel Morrish of Echelon Talent.

youre a donkey. the cast of power rangers in 2015, the pink ranger, which conventionally was always a white blonde girl, was casted as a black girl (the most oppressed group in america). If you really cared about racial justice you would have created a thread about that, not bout the black ranger being an asian actor, as if that is a bad thing :roll: it contradicts youre own mentality, for other races, equality is wrong? but for justice for your own race, you dont even recognize it but choose to only do so for superficial reasons like the color of a costume? nikkas like you stay losing.
