Harrison Barnes deal won't be done per Bob MyersWarriors look content to let this one play out in RFA next summer, I suppose.
Honestly think that this could be a mistake. Idk what they offered him, but I would have given him $70M/4 years and tried to trade him in a Durant S&T next summer. They can still do the double S&T next summer, though. Financial hoops would be tougher to pull off imo.
No clue actually if they're in a financial position re: tax to pull of a S&T. Would probably cost them Ezeli. But that starting 5 would murk the league en route to another title.
Note: I think Barnes could comfortably get $16M/next summer and likely could garner more. I think teams like the Blazers, Suns, Mavs (potentially), both NY teams, Philly, etc. all kick the tires on a potential deal.
Every year they underutilized Barnes, yet every year he steps it up in the playoffs. He might be better served elsewhere.

There was some dude on the Dan Le Batard show that said Barnes shouldn't be getting Tristan Thompson money because he doesn't do anything at an elite level like he does with offensive rebounding.
Then Dan pointed out if the Wizards lose out on Kevin Durant that they may be in the running to pay for Harrison Barnes. The dude tried his best to put down Barnes and make him seem worse than Otto Porter.
Point is that, I too think the Wizards would give him $20M if this season proves to be catastrophic for their SF position.

That's potentially a good fit actually.
I probably wouldn't max him (if I could avoid it...) but I could definitely see him getting $20M/year.
I think he could be a good trade chip anyway next summer. I mean if you give him $80M/4 years now, would he exactly turn that down? That's sub max money, but still seems really great in terms of future security. Also, if his annual salary is high enough to make salaries match, I wonder if he (by himself) could land Melo (gasp!) in a trade next summer. I know he's a worse defender, old, and breaking down, but could be one way to improve the team if the FO/coaching staff feels Barnes is more likely to end up being the next Jeff Green instead of at least a Demarre Carroll level guy on both ends.

Wall
Beal
Porter/Oubre
Barnes/Dudley
Gortat/Nene
I like what they could be building towards.

i love harrison barnes' game. his jumper looks automatic even when he misses. he's got a big body and he uses it to get in the lane. great tweener forward.
it'd be a shame if he left golden state. the starting four of curry, thompson, green, barnes is formidable no matter who you plug in at center.

This. Someone needs to give him a spot where hes more than a spotup combo forward. There are teams like Atlanta that could really use someone like him.

Barnes is a tweener that can't create his own offense nor offense for others and is mediocre on defense. This guy is tripping, he needs to get kicked off the AMC gravy train ASAP.
Good riddance to that shit.

I'd love him on the Rockets. He's like a poor man's Trevor Ariza, which still valuable regarding his age and size. He can guard SGs, SFs, and PFs to an extent while being able to hit open threes and rebound the ball for his position.

when lakers easily strike out on durant, theyre gonna make GSW pay big to keep barnes.

i like ariza more on the rockets with how much your backcourt requires the ball in their hands. he and brewer are so fast filling lanes on the break and i dunno if barnes has the stamina to keep up like they do. plus ariza is one of the best drive and kick players in the league because he's so decisive. whether he swings it or shoots it or pumpfakes and drives, he never hesitates.
they're both versatile tho which is why i like them. it's like something i think zach lowe said, that no matter the year and no matter the team its a guarantee that matt barnes is going to wind up starting at least 20 games in a season. u can slot him into any lineup, he plays hard every game, and inevitably ur team will have an injury on the wing.
ariza and barnes are superior to barnes in just about every way obv
but especially given the backcourts, with curry and thompson being so much more effective off the ball, u guys are better off with ariza

ooooh that's enticing. a randle/barnes forward combo would be sick.
