Fall River, MA. Population: just shy of 90,000.

Pro:
- great Portuguese food

Con:
- everything else

My mother and father are moving to the suburbs closer to where they work within the next month and then I will blessedly have zero reason to ever go back to the pile of crap city I grew up in. Thankfully I'm a decent cook and can make for myself most of the great Portuguese food I left behind.

When I used to live in Philadelphia

Pros
-Very reasonable rent, even in Center City (high end/business center of the city). Could easily get a nice room/apartment for $600+ in West Philly in either an apartment complex or a house shared with roommates. Think of reasonable rent that NYC had in the 80s/90s.
-Very friendly people for the most part
-Food truck galore
-A lot of college kids, solid schools and an Ivy.
-Reasonable city to walk around and get to places.
-Rocky statue
-Solid nightlife in all parts of West Philly and Center City
-Insane fan bases for sports. People are die hard Flyers/Eagles fans. Sixers fans... not so much in recent years. There on par with NYC fans in terms of the knowledge about sports. They aren't as delusional though as some of the NYC sports fans that I know.
-It really is an affordable city and it has a lot of neighborhoods that feel like its the suburbs.
-People say it feels a lot like Brooklyn, New York nowadays
-South street is really fun to hang out in. Some really hidden gems in terms of restaurants.
-Cherry Hill, NJ is a nearby neighborhood and it is a really sweet place to live. Ton of restaurants, stores, hotels, and some nice houses. It's right next to Camden but it's much safer.
-The suburbs of Philly in Pennsylvania are very nice for the most part. Some very solid public schools and from what I've heard, high school basketball is a big thing around there. Tyreke Evans and Kobe Bryant played ball in the Chester/Philly suburb area.

Cons
-At night, the city gets shady once you get deeper in areas like West Philly, North Philly, and some parts of South Philly.
-Getting robbed happens way too often. I lived on a street where 3 or 4 people got robbed in the past few years, one at gunpoint.
-The girls here are honestly not that good looking. Usually the good looking ones are from New Jersey or high end suburbs outside.
-Camden is just outside of Philly and Chester is close by.
-More dangerous than Chicago (not sure if it still is)
-Very very bad public schools.
-Too few cops in certain areas.
-Drugs are a far bigger issue here than NYC. My friend lived in a rougher part of West Philly and said he was offered drugs at corners more than once during the nighttime.
-Homeless people get aggressive at times.

denver is awesome.

easy access to the outdoors, including some of the best skiing/snowboarding in the world. the nightlife is great, lots of cool bars, music venues, comedy clubs... things like that. really good food and beer. weed is legal. the local sports scene is pretty solid.

denver is pretty hot these days, there is a lot of investment and gentrification going on right now. make sure you have a job lined up, as the city is starting to get expensive. last year denver had the second highest increase in rents in the nation, trailing only Portland OR. denver is really sprawly too, not a big fan of that aspect.

Good:

very diverse, lots of good food/fine dining, extremely cheap to live in, decent night life for a city of its size

Bad:

Winters are awful, sports teams are all losers, public transportation, public image is terrible, traffic is sh*tty as hell especially downtown.

City centre has lots of stuff to do

International airport

Huge population (1m+), huge economy

City on the up and up. Lots of infrastructure projects to make it a nicer place

Young population

Great universities

Lots of parks and green spaces

Cons:

Local government is strapped for cash, and spends what money they have unwisely. Eg built a new library (biggest in Europe) for

Yea housing is crazy in denver right now, house prices have skyrocketed....

I guess if you go to a open house, they require you bring a 10k cashiers check to know you are serious and actually have money, and houses are going way over market value right now

same thing is going on in Portland. i bought a house here last year and it was completely insane, houses were selling the same day they got listed and for 20-40k over the asking price.

Hamilton, Ontario. Ancaster specifically.Fairly close to T-Dot, usually have to reference it for anyone outside of Ontario to have any clue what location I'm talking about. :oldlol:

Pros: smaller alternative to Toronto, good local post-secondary education options (currently finishing up at McMaster, Mohawk is ranked well as far as colleges), great food, culturally diverse, safe (at least in my experience), long winters, great trails

Cons: economic strength is still questionable in the city proper following the decline of the steel industry, pollution (smog can still get pretty bad during the summers but it's much more rare than it used to be, improving on that front), too many Leafs fans, not enough park space in certain areas of the city (usually better in surrounding areas)

I found it surprisingly difficult to think up pros and cons, lived in and around Hamilton for my entire life (most of my family has stayed local, at least relatively so) so I've pretty much accepted everything I experience here as just part of it. :lol

Hamilton is gross.
I heard Ancaster/Dundas area is nice though.
First thing I noticed about Hamilton is the nasty pollution. So many factories there eh? I went to Hess village a couple of times and didn't mind it. I see a lot of drugs out there though. Too many bikers selling coke and way too many people with tattooes in that city.

Went to Honest Lawyer in the mall there a couple of weeks ago and didn't enjoy it at all. Almost ended up punching some drunk ass native guy in his mid 40's. He kept harassing us for free drinks and his breathe smelled like Listerine. Three security guards ended up arresting him. The idiot locked himself in the bathroom too.

My girlfriend finished psychology at McMaster and is doing her Masters at University of Toronto now. I only visited Oakville once and it was okay. I heard Ancaster is on the mountain and heard its a good area to live.

Barton Street is filth. I went there after Hess to the strip joint and was disgusted at how many bums there are, prostitutes and druggies.

Good thing you don't live near that area.

The whole 'Hamilton is gross' shtick is outdated. Largely comes from people who don't live in the area too.

Pollution is still a bit of a problem but it's not nearly as bad as it once was. Factories are shutting down, steel industry is all but dead, it's more dealing with what was left than new problems. I can remember being kept inside for recess during elementary school due to smog on a fairly regular basis (and that was outside the city, crazy) but that doesn't happen anymore.

I don't like Hess but a lot of people do, definitely the hotspot area of the city. There's a better area (imo) nearby but I can't remember the name of the street, more of a pub feel than what Hess brings but it's all preference. Jackson Square can get sketchy at times, The Works is the only restaurant in that mall worth the time imo. If you're looking for good food though, Jackson Square is far from the place to be. :oldlol:

Barton's rep is worse than the street actually is, I volunteered at a soup kitchen right near what's supposed to be the worst intersection for a few years and never saw anything that I haven't seen in other cities. Hamilton Strip is supposed to be brutal though :lol (it's actually maybe 2-3 blocks from the church where I volunteered).

Barton's homeless population can be pretty bad though. Things used to be less clustered as far as the homeless population but one of the bigger shelters was moved down there (the one that I volunteered at) and draws some of the people down there with it. There's a Good Shepherd fairly close to Barton too iirc, they see 250-300 people/night.

Ancaster is really nice whether it be the new surburbs or the older areas, same thing can be said for Dundas. Oakville is part of Halton iirc but all those areas are close enough that we're basically one giant area that contains a ton of cities and towns.

Come chill bro, just moved here a week ago. Can't think of a Con. The Mexican food won't be too exciting for you since you're from Texas I'm guessing, but it's the best I've had besides Cali. Nanners is right about the job though, it's not easy for me to find one.

I'll do one for each of the cities I've lived in/near

Austin

Pro's

-Very lively, youthful population

-outdoor recreation, you'll see loads of people jogging, kayaking, walking their dogs, playing volleyball/frisbee
-great music festival scene
-extremely chill compared to Dallas

San Antonio

Pro's

-Amazing food

Atlanta

Pro's

-Nightlife & entertainment. there's always shit to do
-geographical location
-weather (all 4 seasons but none are too harsh)
-restaurants, tons of them
-trendy
-it's a welcoming city. seems like most of the population comes from other cities/countries, which can be a bit of a pro and con
-suuuper cheap to live, especially in the outskirts
-big city but not too big
-they're always building up so all the neighborhoods and stores usually look brand new and modern. (can be a bit of a con as well)
-good schools

Con's

-everything is far away
-traffic
-public transportation is pretty much nonexistent
-busiest airport in the world. Flying through atlanta is a nightmare (can be pro and con, but more of a con to me)

Pros-
-Some beautiful architecture and a pretty rich history
-Great night scene
-Top 50 ranked university in the world
-Home of Bansky and Cary Grant
-Generally nice people

Cons-
-A lot of shitty areas
-Stapleton Road, apparently the most dangerous road in England (I don't buy that as I walk down it almost every day, but it's pretty awful)
-Hard to get a taxi and bad public transport
-Too many hipsters
-Last but not least, the accent. Take a look for yourself. It's a crime against humanity.

I've visited
Chicago about 5 years ago

pros
-It has a really sick skyline
-The beach on Michigan (I think that was it) Avenue is pretty sweet
-Food is very solid.
-Deep dish Chicago pizza is legit
-Generally speaking, it was a way more aesthetic city in the affluent parts than Philadelphia
-Felt way safer walking late at night in Chicago than Philly in terms of the affluent parts (North Chicago/downtown vs. Center City). Center City is pretty empty late at night and certain streets has a lot of the homeless population. Some of them do get aggressive.

cons
-I've been to Southside Chicago, it was sketchy. Looked as scary maybe a little more scary than the bad areas I've seen in Philly.
-It was chilly on an August summer day.
-Suburbs of Chicago are pretty small, way smaller than NYC's suburbs and Philly's.
-The people we knew there said that parts of Westside Chicago and Southside Chicago were no-go zones similarly to Philly. There's a few North Philly neighborhoods that you should avoid at night at all costs. Sticking out like a sore thumb in those type of neighborhoods is asking for trouble.

Currently live in Chicago.

Pros....

- Food is incredible. Pretty much anything you want, at as high quality as you're willing to pay for..just gotta know where to find it.

- Always something to do.

- Ton of opportunity for networking and meeting people of completely different backgrounds.

- If you're in the city when a Chicago sports team looks like it might be on the verge of winning it all...it's something else. Huge buzz around the city that you just don't get in most cities.

Cons...

- Traffic, cost, etc. General huge city problems

- Gotta know where you're going otherwise things could get not pretty real quick.

I've grown up in Chicago/Milwaukee suburbs and went to college in Madison so I don't even notice the cold/wind anymore. Probably an issue for other people though.

St. Petersburg, FL

Pros
-beaches
-nightlife
-variety of things to do
-beautiful during winter
-drop dead gorgeous women
-everyone is from somewhere else. Where you went to high school doesn't matter

Cons
-very hot most of the year
-traffic/no public transit
-very dangerous in parts

Pretty much same thing for where I live (Clearwater, 15mins from St Pete) except the nightlife isn't really a pro...well I guess it is if you just moved here, but for me it has gotten stale. I've been here too long.

Another pro would be one of the best (if not best) community colleges and good uni's nearby. Job potential is great in the Tampa bay area, isn't ultra competitive.

Are we supposed to guess what city everyone is from?

Vancouver

Pros:
- You have the mountains and ocean within minutes from each other
- Ethnic cuisine is world class
- Great parks and beaches, even within downtown
- Outdoor enthusiasts dream
- Lots of festivals
- Movies and shows filmed all over the lower mainland
- Hot females

Cons:
- Winter gets a ton of rain
- Expensive if you want to live in metro Vancouver
- Pathetic bandwagon sports culture
- Girls are unapproachable
- Poor nightlife

Can't add anything to that. Daheezy got it perfect.

Perth, Australia:

+ Beautiful city
+ Chillax and friendly Aussies
+ High quality of life (food, air)

- Old school, not very modern
- Everything closes early

Pros-
A lot of basketball
Cafe Rio (good restaurant)
Nice people
4 seasons (although Spring kind of sucks)
Best Snow on Earth

Cons-
Not a lot of diversity people-wise
Freezing in the mornings
BYU football always disappoints
And probably a few others

I have extended family that lived in Singapore for like 3 years, and they loved it for all the reasons you mentioned above

Seville, Spain

Pros:

- Good weather(except summer)
- Friendly people
- Excellent food.
- Rich culture and great architecture. Basically lots of ancient cool buildings and weird traditions. Heritage of many different cultures like, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Moors, etc.
- Landscapes, good vibe, nice parties and lots of things to do.

Cons:

- Extremely hot in summer.
- Almost nobody speaks English.
- Relatively small, 700K municipal population and 1.5million metropolitan population.
- A minority is terribly snob and old fashioned. Specially older generations.
