if they demote him to the d league he can get claimed by any other NBA team and the lakers can do nothing about it

All that matters with the lakers is boy band looks, dating a kardashian, and swagger. He doesn't need to be good at basketball.

I think he would struggle in the d league just like the summer league. D leaguer's are too fast.

Lakers should force Kobe to retire. He's holding everyone back.

:whatever:

that's not how it works. A player can be waived and choose to sign in the d-league in which case anyone can sign him, or a player can be under contract and sent to the d-league in which case he is still on the lakers roster and can be called up at any point. There used to be restrictions on who can be sent (years in the league or age or something) I think but not sure any more. Either way the lakers could send him for a stint there but it's a bad move. He just needs time to develop in the league, not all players flourish when given the reigns of the offence and maybe d'angelo has a better chance of success being eased in. We don't know his personality or attitude but the lakers front office do. He may look bad now playing off the ball more but if it helps him long term it's the right move and if he figures out how to run off screens and play off the ball it adds a new skill to his resume.
